bank passbook full

You couldn't transfer your account to Kalasin, but you could have moved your money to your new local bank. I changed places several times and instead of going to the original branch i withdraw nearly all the money and deposited it in a new account. The original bank than closed the account.

I know. That was the obvious solution. But they wouldn't let me open an account at my local bank. No work permit. So no, I couldn't.

The passbook is full ( even with added pages). With me NOT BEING IN THAILAND , how can I get the passbook re-newed so my partner can continue to use it. Right now they wont let her use the account until the new passbook is issued...which they wont do without me being there in person !!!!!!

I've never had issues with adding on pages, sometimes a lot, until I myself asks to have my bank book renewed. However I might using different banks than you, I use Bangkok Bank and SCB.

To renew a bank book the account owner need to be present with ID - normally passport for foreigners - most banks can today renew a bank book in any branch.

Your Thai partner could ask the bank if it's possible to get the bank book renewed with power of attorney, and if yes then what they requires.

@ Jay 55...you seem to be one of the FEW here who fully understand the situation . so,I'll re-cap for the others .........It is a fixed term investment account holding my 800K for "retirement visa" purposes. BOTH myself and partner have black light signatures in back of book with an EITHER to use arrangement.

Due to covid, me being outside thailand and therefore missing the date for extension of visa....I decided to USE THE MONEY in the account NOW...and re-start the "retirement visa "process when/if I return to thailand. Why leave 800k sitting there when I NO LONGER NEED IT BE THERE .......of course the bank has all necessary paperwork for me AND MY PARTNER.........but to simply re-issue a new book ( still in MY NAME ALONE)....place my partners signature in blacklight in back and add mine upon my return to Thailand ----well that is just TOO SIMPLE for Thai understanding.

@ Jimn ...........If you were to READ the comments , I still transfer money very simply BUT I want to use the 800K as no good reason for it to just sit there , "retirement visa"has lapsed so no need for the money to be in the account.

.....as sad as it may sound ...for us Australians ....we are not permitted to leave the country unless we are an international sports person, or a movie star or a politician ( these people seem to be able to come and go as they like) ...but for us normal people travel overseas is extremely difficult and prohibitively expensive from Australia. ( singapore airline $3000+ ONE WAY- Thai ailines $10,000+ ONE WAY)

and for those others who cant be bothered to ACTUALLY READ POSTS .......the account is a fixed term deposit account that has been in operation for more than 9 years ( hence book FULL) with regular updates and activity for immigration officers perusal over the years......the account ( as required by immigration ) is in MY NAME ALONE ...but I was able to get the partner's signature put in back in blacklight  with an EITHER TO USE arrangement.

@ KannikaP.......upon re-newal of the fixed term they have always just added new lines to the existing book as it is usually re-newed for the same term at the same rate.

it is GREAT to see this forum still ( after 5 years away from it ) filled with "experts"who dont read posts before responding or simply apply their own experience without trying to understand the experience of the OP.

Just because it hasnt happened to YOU , doesnt mean it hasnt happened to others

Passbooks are just another level of Thai bureaucracy. Any other country use them? I don't know of any. I used to live in Bangkok and had my account at the main Bangkok Bank branch. Then I moved to Kalasin Province, but was unable to transfer my account to my local branch. When my book was full I asked at my local branch for a new book and they said, in all seriousness, that I had to travel from Kalasin to Bangkok to do it.

And when I was in Bangkok I went into a branch other than my own to renew my book, and got the default reaction of any bank staff anywhere - Cannot. It was late in the afternoon and I didn't have enough time to get to my branch and would have had to make a lengthy trip back into the city the next day, so I decided to argue about why. Of course, the assistant had no idea, so she called the manager out to see me. And he decided to be helpful and issued the new book. So they could do it if they wanted to.

Very often in Thailand, you have to argue to achieve anything. Of course, it can have to opposite effect and they'll just look right through you and act as if you aren't there.

I have Bangkok bank account and can get passbook renewed at any branch even outside of province, just needed old passbook and passport no problem.

I've never even heard that you can have pages added to a passbook. Whenever I showed up at the bank with a full passbook, they issued me a new one.

How many pages can be added before it jams the passbook update machine, I'm wondering?

Such accounts are not allowed - only cash/deposit accounts.

You started thread without even mentioning the account was a time deposit - only that passbook was full - making it appear a normal savings account.

Perhaps you can understand why we may be confused?   Most people seem to be trying to help with the information provided - and most would never have had such a passbook becoming full so will have little experience.  Unfortunately it seems resolution may require your presence and understand that is an issue, especially during this period of time.

Kasikorn added some extra pages a year or so, or rather stapled a slip with an extra page, when I deposited some cash in another branch, I was advised that I'd have to go the branch that held my account to get a new book.

The issue started out being simple ........seeking how to re-new a bank passbook without being physically present at the bank. What type of account and its purpose really isnt relevant. Also , if they havent had any experience with a "full passbook"..then there isnt much point in them commenting ....is there????oh well --this is TVF....always has been a place for people with NO actual knowledge giving advice on a problem they dont understand....but thanks to those who have tried to offer useful assistance .........mods , maybe close this thread NOW.
