Manager reported on the latest case of a Nigerian man and his Thai wife mixed up in the business of hard drugs in Thailand - namely cocaine and crystal meth or "ice".

CSD deputy commander Pol Maj-Gen Jiraphop Phuridech gave details of the case that led to the arrest of Nigerian national Henry K.A. and his Thai wife Wanwisa, 24, on an arrest warrant for drug possession.

Also arrested in a series of raids were Iwuamadi E.W., another Nigerian charged with illegal entry into Thailand and Usoma or Justin a third Nigerian who was barred from Thailand after a previous drug conviction.

Jiraphop said that the case related to a call the CSD received from a delivery company in Ratchthewi last October about a suspect package being mailed to Hong Kong.

Nine kilos of ice was found in 18 ladies bags among a consignment of 30 bags. It was tightly wrapped to avoid detection from its odor.

Investigations and evidence gathering led to an arrest warrant for the Thai woman who had mailed the package and the Nigerian man, her husband, who drove her to the delivery company.

Henry's fingerprints were found on the package - they were on record from a previous drugs case.

Three raids were made in Samut Prakan with assistance from the provincial force in that province and one was made in Bangkok.

A total of 290 grams of cocaine was discovered worth 900,000 baht.

All suspects in the case deny wrongdoing.

Jiraphop said that increasingly the drugs gangs were using the services of private delivery companies to smuggle drugs abroad.

The police are working with the companies to identify suspect parcels but it is a major job involving a trade in drugs that is damaging the image of Thailand.

It's probably not the case this time, but it's seriously makes me wondering how many of those cases are innocent people that are being framed...

There are probably thousands of innocent people in Thai jails for drug offences, including foreigners.

There are 1 or 2 outside that have done quite well in the past too. Big house, several nice cars , you know the sort.
