Visa extension questions.

Recommended Posts

Hi all / swaadee kap,

I entered thailand via a 45 day visa on arrival and would like to get an extension.

Im legally married to my wife and have 2 children here in thailand.

What options do i have in terms of getting an extension and what documents and paperwork would i need?

I plan on getting my extension at aranyaprathet immigration and my wife called in to ask if they were issuing extensions and they said they were which is a relief as i don't want to travel to BKK to get an extension.

Any help appreciated.

In broad terms:

1) you need to use office where your address has been registered via TM30 filing

2) you can apply for 60 day extension to visit your wife (need wife with you and marriage docs)

3) After that 60 days you can extend for 1 year for reason of marriage with money in the bank, 400K baht for 2 months prior to application

Further details hopefully will be provided by UbonJoe and others as I am not familiar with marriage extension particulars

Thanks tonray, ive done extensions in the past but with all the rule changes that happen so often, its best to get confirmation from reliable members like joe as you mentioned, im assuming the fee is also still roughly 2000bhat for the 60day extension?

You left out one very important step. The first step is to apply for 90 day non-o visa entry at immigration before applying for the one year extension.

Certainly no need to apply for a 60 day extension first.

Dr jack54, maybe another 40-50 days but my 45 days that i initially got are coming to an end soon hence why i need the extension.

In that case all you need is 60 day extension to visit wife.

If extra time needed you could (if still available) obtain 60 day covid extension. Both extensions are 1900b each.

Note for next visit another option is to enter visa exempt and obtain non O marriage at immigration. All that's required is 400k baht in Thai bank on day you apply. That gives you 90 day permit.

Dr jack54, yes a visit to see my wife and kids and stay maybe another 40-50 days but my 45 days that i initially got are coming to an end soon hence why i need the extension.

You first will have to apply for a 30 day extension of your visa exempt entry. Then you could possibley apply for a 60 day covid 19 extension.

The 60 day extension to visit your wife is one per entry to the country.

Thanks ubonjoe. Yes forgot about the required 30 day extension first up.

Can you clarify...would he be able to apply for a covid extension (if available) after the 30day extension or would they make him apply for extension to visit wife.

Thinking he would be better off with the covid extension.

Edit: just noted ubonjoe suggested covid extension after the 'standard' 30day extension

Joe, so i can get a 60 day extension on my current VOA 45 days right?

Yes but you will first need to apply for a 30 day extension of your 45 day visa exempt entry (a VOA is only for 15 days and is only for those from 21 countries).

If the 60 day covid 19 extension is still available you could apply for it.

You wife has to be with you when you apply for the 60 day extension to visit her. You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy. Copies of your wife's ID card and house book registry.

For all 3 of the extensions you will need a copy of your passport photo page, arrival stamp and extension stamp if you have already applied for a one extension. And a completed TM7 form with a 4 X 6 cm photo attached.

They would let him apply for the covid 19 extension instead of the one to visit his wife.

Joe, ive only been to thailand once this year, you have confused me, i haven't done any extensions this year. I would rather get a 60day extension to visit my wife over 30, is that not possible?

They will not issue the 60 day extension unless you have already applied for a 30 day extension.

Cheers joe, so the 60 day options is not possible unless i get the 30 days first ( lame rules).

You can try to apply for the 60 day extension first. Some offices might do it without doing the 30 days first.

They probably would do it if you apply for the extension to visit your wife.
