You're 20 years in the past.  Nowadays, tires generally go to 40-45 psi, for better mileage.  Surprised me, too.  For 40+ years, 32 psi all around was the magic number.

When my bike comes back from the shop tyres are massively over-inflated... once blew my gauge apart when I tested thinking it was 'a bit hard'....

Yes, I wonder why that is? 

My CRV door car plate says 30 psi all round, but everyone wants to put in 34 psi. 

Maybe with a heavy load...one would think if the manufacturer says 30 psi, that's what you'de do.
