Chiang Mai now being recognised as the best city in Thailand is of course excellent news. Hardly surprising to those of us who truly know the place though. Such a fantastic city.

Typical working definitions for small-city populations start at around 100,000 people.

The Mueang Chiang Mai District alone has a population of 127,000. The city's sprawl extends into several neighboring districts, if you include that  you're up to a million residents.

 

It's a city allright.
