Thailand cannot finalize Bangkok’s reopening date

The plan to reopen Bangkok to international tourists from 15 October is being questioned, as to whether the city is actually ready. The government’s COVID-19 task force said on Saturday that any reopening plan needs to be evaluated by the Ministry of Public Health first.

20% fully vaccinated in a population of 70,000,000 is very low. What % of those are jabbed with the Chinese vaccines and now need a booster we do not know. I would think a lot. I cannot see a reason to support the govt. when it comes to the rollout of vaccinating the nation.

Did I say anywhere in that post about supporting the government? You are reading what you want to see not what I said.

I said putting aside the reasons for the situation you can still recognise the efforts of those to get the number of vaccinated where it is today.

If you and/or others want to turn that into another swipe at this government then that is your prerogative.

Personally I wound rather praise those who deserve recognition.

The link which was posted by myself and Kadilo re Phuket bed numbers:

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/phuket-covid-19-235-daily-infections-238-hospital-beds-available
At the bottom of the report the source is 'Phuket news' which show the previous days report of 236 infections and 5 deaths.

https://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-marks-236-new-covid-cases-five-deaths-81426.php

The correct link is of course: https://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-marks-235-new-covid-cases-81434.php

Is this a regular occurence with ThaigerNews or maybe this is just a one off?

UK scraps Amber list allowing more freedom of movement but Thailand remains on Red list????????????

Unfortunately its no surprise, not enough testing and sequencing for covid and variants, not enough data, not something they can hide from the UK.

The UK yesterday also released a new list of accepted vaccines for arrivals there including mix doses and AZ from Korea but AZ from Siam Bioscience is also still off the list. Interesting to note the AZ from South Korea was only in manufacture recently but still got a pass.

Its a regular occurrence, Thaiger copies all its news from other sources, thats why its always later in publishing. Probably why we also never see it used as an OP in this forum. A disgrace of a publication in my eyes, stealing content.

Ok. Would you praise the govt. Prayut/Anutin. Just asking. Do you think they deserve praise? Once again just asking a question. We all praise the doctors and nurses and all the other front line workers (well I hope we all do) but what about the govt. Do they deserve praise? It's a fair question which is now being played out in Thai society. I for one say they don't. Where do you stand on this?

Singapore reopened and reintroduced restrictions within a fortnight.

Who in their right mind would book a ticket for long haul travel to a country that could close it's borders at a minutes notice.

In short, I think they have made mistakes and could/should have done better.

Everyone was initially praising them when they were shutting the borders, locking everything down etc and declared zero cases whilst the rest of the world were beginning to rage with infections. I recall certain posters reminding everyone daily how well Thailand was handling the situation whilst criticising other countries such as the UK and USA.

That situation was never going to be sustainable. The economy and the heavy reliance on tourism was always going to take its toll eventually and pressure would mount for change and relaxation.

What they should have done imo was be proactive, secure vaccines and start the vaccination programme during this period. But they become complacent, and naive to think it would almost just go away and Thailand would not be affected. Some may think it was arrogant.

The above is a very simplistic summary,  obviously there was a lot more going on.

I think, with the exception of a few, most countries have not come out of this well. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I am sure many leaders would do certain things differently with the knowledge they have now.

I recall Johnson rejecting the use of face coverings despite clear benefits and advice from experts. Going around cuddling world leaders, no social distancing, then both he and Hancock catching it. Sending infected people back into care homes with little controls, sacrificing old vulnerable people to free up hospital bed space. Then their was Trump…….let’s not even go there.

That does not mitigate against this government's mistakes, just highlights that it was not unique or here.

I still believe that despite the mistakes the past few months has been a relative success in this respect mainly due to the efforts of the people that care the most. Maybe that is papering over the cracks of the past but still deserves recognition which is why I would rather praise the current, then keep criticising what you cannot change.

I appreciate other people may feel differently, that’s down to individual choice and everyone is free to voice their feelings as far as I’m concerned, good or bad.

The big problem with these reports is that it doesn't note how many ICU beds and critical care units, if any, are still unoccupied.

1 June 2021
WHO today validated the Sinovac-CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, giving countries, funders, procuring agencies and communities the assurance that it meets international standards for safety, efficacy and manufacturing. The vaccine is produced by the Beijing-based pharmaceutical company Sinovac.

“The world desperately needs multiple COVID-19 vaccines to address the huge access inequity across the globe,” said Dr Mariângela Simão, WHO Assistant-Director General for Access to Health Products.

How many cycles of amplification of the PCR test are being used to determine whether a person shows as positive to Covid-19 ?
Since this can have a bearing upon the proportion of false positives amongst the declared "cases" :

This is a false issue raised against PCR machines. All these machines are calibrated against an index sample with a known concentration of viruses.
