I am in the process of moving to Thailand on September 11th to teach in Bangkok. I don’t have a job yet but with my degrees I’m not concerned with finding something for employment. It was advised to me by people on various forums and the Thailand Embassy to get a 60 day Tourist Visa to begin with. Now I have my RT ticket for September 11th through October 10th with United Airlines and I have my passport picture required for the application, but has anyone on this forum been denied a 60 day Tourist Visa? Is there a longer Visa I can get? The man from the Thai Embassy told me I can get a 60 day Tourist Visa and if I still need longer that I can leave Thailand twice and do a visa run. If anyone has any better advice, I’d really love to hear it.

Thanks so much,

I haven't heard of any random denials of tourist visas to anyone from an English-speaking country. If there's nothing unusual that would come up in the cursory checks they will do on you, I don't think there's anything to worry about.

The harder step is to get the non-immigrant "B" visa you will need to work legally. It is technically possible to convert the tourist visa to a non-immigrant "B" if you get the necessary paperwork in Bangkok, but most schools will not know about this or know how to help you do this- you will either have to coach them up to speed on it or make the first visa run to a nearby country like everyone else.

You should read the Questions about Qualifications thread for more details, as well as all the links on the "Recommended Links" thread.
