webfact
Picture: Sanook Deputy government spokesman Ratchada Thanadirek said that cabinet approval had been gained for the expropriation of land in five districts. This will pave the way for a new bridge so far called "Kiakkai bridge" that will join Phra Nakhon and Thonburi, reported Sanook. It is in the area of the new parliament and tests are being done to assess whether its building will weaken the structure of the swanky new parliament building. The bridge will be 320 meters long and have three lanes on each side. Experts have deemed a new bridge was the only way to solve traffic problems in the area. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-09-29 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

ourmanflint
Building more roads has worked so well in other metropolises like LA hasn't it? What harm can another million tonnes of concrete do to an already sinking Bangkok?
kingstonkid
So now protestors will have 6 lanes of traffic to tie up when they protest COOL!
Gold Star
Allowing motorcycles on all the bridges will reduce car traffic, as people going from one side to another now have no choice but to drive a car. Perhaps a new bridge is not needed at all.
Aussieroaming
The bridge might be 3 lanes each way but are they going to widen the approach roads in the area most of which are one or two lane roads that already carry high volumes of traffic. A new bridge makes certain sense in regards to location because in addition to thr new Parliament Building it would also shorten access to the Bang Sue Rail Link from the other side of the river. However the road networks in and out of the local municipality aren't up to increased traffic volumes without some extensive planning and redevelopment. tomazbodner
Is this planned just where Bang Sue canal reaches the river? That's not Phra Nakhon...

Please give motorbikes a separate lane fenced off to keep the crazies away from cars in confined places.
bangon04
"Experts have deemed a new bridge was the only way to solve traffic problems in the area. " Thai experts will next consider how a 6-lane motorway will seamlessly blend into the narrow sois on either side of the bridge.... By the way - will U-turns be allowed on the middle of the bridge? PETERTHEEATER
Comes the revolution, this will provide a convenient bolt-hole for fleeing members of the Thai Parliament with one lane dedicated to the 'do you know who I am' brigade......????♂️????♀️
