Bangkok governor inspects water propelling boats in lower Chao Phraya River

Featured Replies

I've been saying for years in addition to these so called pusher boats that they ought to line the banks of the river with the unemployed and school children and hand out canoe paddles and tennis rackets and such and get them to help to move the water down stream.

  • The river is probably doing about 1,000m3 per second unassisted. So that's 86,400,000m3 per day.   Assuming these beaties have an average pushing capacity of 50,000m3 per day, x 12 that's 60

Did these actually have a measurable effect last time they were used?

Yes. The boats strained against the ropes securing them.

Now they have the water moving so fast, maybe they should put some hydroelectric generators in there.

Or maybe it's just tidal effects :whistling:

In 2011 I followed the tide predictions daily.  It was a case of when the tide was high the water outside was high.  And we live in Mahasawat.  Mere propellors cannot change this.  What was the name of the stupid science minister at the time?  Prad............. or similar.

The original boat guy was Plodprasop.

You're a bit nearer the sea than we are (we are about 92km as the river flows) and on a different river. What sort of delay are you seeing between high at the gulf and locally? We have about 6 hours give or take.
