Pattaya – At least 30 people were arrested last night (November 3rd) at a bar near Pattaya Beach for allegedly breaking the Chonburi disease control order designed to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus, according to the Pattaya Police.

The incident took place at 10:00 P.M. when a team from the Pattaya City Police led by the Pattaya City Acting Police Chief Colonel Maykawit Praditphon were patrolling in the area to prepare for the Pattaya Music Festival tomorrow (November 5th) and on November 6th.

Police found that the bar was opened and many people were found gathering in the bar. Officers found at least 30 foreigners and Thais who were, according to Pattaya police, drinking alcohol, gathering, and breaking current rules around Covid-19. Alcohol was allegedly found inside paper glasses.

Currently, all bars, entertainment venues, and nightclubs are mandated closed in Chonburi, the home province of Pattaya. Additionally, alcohol sales are banned at restaurants.

  • Paper glasses?

  • Could be because the owners of the bar didn't or wouldn't pay those who needs to be paid to keep the business going hassle free, (so I'm told)

I'm guess as we get closer to full opening (Dec 1?), more and more people will try and bend the rules.

Paper glasses?

It was good to hear live music again from this place when I walked past a few nights ago but thought I noticed a beer garden sign in the alley immediately adjacent - didn't take long, did it?

Usually name recorded and fined, then released. Worst case is being held overnight....

Not always that simple. There are conflicting groups looking for the same scarce funds. This leads to whoever has the biggest D**K or brown envelope winning. Depending who is on the pay off list will decide whether you get to walk or a ride to soi 9

Also, there is optics involved. The police make a token raid every now and then to show that they are controlling the situation. They get the media attention and then it's business as usual.

Arrest a few gathering for a drink, but the fuzz were their making preparations for the two day eardrum pounding...sorry music festival. No crowds gathering there then! Maybe the absensce of booze will keep the virus at bay.

I expect there will be Lao ladies carrying cold boxes.....

.......many people were found gathering......

Oh my! The horror! Not the dreaded gathering!

It is my understanding old Moses just couldn't carry the third stone tablet, and what he left behind on My Sinai was the one that read "Thou shalt not gather".

Now gathering in a crowded wet market is okay, as is gathering on the BTS in BKK or in Foodland/FoodGourmet/Tops/etc. Gathering is even likely to be allowed this weekend at the music festival, but there is gathering, and then there is gathering.

Ecclesiastes and Pete Seeger, and then the Byrds did say there is a time, or a season, to gather, but that was 'stones together', and not any sort of illegal and unsanctioned gathering.

Let them learn a lesson.

Can someone post me a picture of a paper glass as I have never come across one

Heaven forbid, people gathering together after 19 months of not being allowed too, what has become for the world I once knew.

Best look over our shoulder's because we never know when the Covid monster will get us all, could be in a public toilet taking a pee, or in a Shopping Centre or a restaurant, who knows, but book them Danno, good job, keeping society safe from these criminals.

and the optics to any would be tourists planning to visit Pattaya is to cancel their flight and go somewhere they can enjoy themselves.

No wonder I will not be returning to LOS with that sort of idiocy going on.

Did they not consider that just telling the owner to close the bar, and telling the customers what the law is, without actually arresting anyone would garner a lot less negative publicity on social media?

Well, it takes a police colonel (!) to hunt those infidels imbibing on the forbidden liquid inside "paper glasses".

Not living in Pattaya anymore yet I could name two foreign operated restaurants in Sinville which were forced to pay  heavy - under the table - five digits amounts without receipts. Some of which certainly ended on the top of all those desks of these generals and colonels in mustard-brown uniforms and yep, once in a while, they have to do the job they are actually paid for.

As long as this country is run and operated by such pr1cks inventing laws, rules and regulations by the dozen .............

Soon will not need paper glasses, they may leak and crush and cause trees to be cut down, you will be able to drink out of glass again soon, don't worry be happy.

I absolutely agree with you, but the BIB need there 'tea money' and they haven't got enough brain cells to figure out what negative publicity is. Its a very sad situation!

Nothing had been warned the tourists just arrived in Thailand?

TAT where are you ?

This looks like the same bar I drove by 3 nights ago. I'm not <deleted>ting you it was on the same block as the beach road police station, just 60 meters north, had a live band. Awesome detective work.

They all should be taken out the back and shot everyone knows alcohol spreads covid, and none other than the acting police chief, he obviously heard they had brown envelopes and he should be first, getting ready for the music festival, Amazing Thailand

Big deal. Does that impress anyone that the police are keeping them safe ?

Surely not, I mean, that would mean that our fine upstanding custodians of the peace, with their oh so tight uniforms, impressive medals and regalia and sometimes rusty pistols ( look closely next time you are standing next to one - he may have the latest Gucci velcro strap-on quick-draw holster but the external condition of the weapon would make a "Metal Mickey" - skill at arms instructor - go all shouty!) were perhaps susceptible to an ex Gratia payment?

Shame on you for the very suggestion!
