  • Paper glasses?

  • Could be because the owners of the bar didn't or wouldn't pay those who needs to be paid to keep the business going hassle free, (so I'm told)

Here you go. I have placed an image below but, be warned, it is transparent....

Police found that the bar was opened and many people were found gathering in the bar. Officers found at least 30 foreigners and Thais who were, according to Pattaya police, drinking alcohol, gathering, and breaking current rules around Covid-19. Alcohol was allegedly found inside paper glasses.

Pattaya – At least 30 people were arrested last night (November 3rd) at a bar near Pattaya Beach for allegedly breaking the Chonburi disease control order designed to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus, according to the Pattaya Police

Must be really confusing for incoming tourists to undetstand what they can and cannot do.

Oh my! The horror! Not the dreaded gathering!

It is my understanding old Moses just couldn't carry the third stone tablet, and what he left behind on My Sinai was the one that read "Thou shalt not gather".

Now gathering in a crowded wet market is okay, as is gathering on the BTS in BKK or in Foodland/FoodGourmet/Tops/etc. Gathering is even likely to be allowed this weekend at the music festival, but there is gathering, and then there is gathering.

Ecclesiastes and Pete Seeger, and then the Byrds did say there is a time, or a season, to gather, but that was 'stones together', and not any sort of illegal and unsanctioned gathering.

Let them learn a lesson.

I think misleading information from government sources don't help. Sure i read on TVisa only last week about curfew being changed to 2300- 0300. bars would be allowed to open, with restrictions and restaurants could start serving beer with meals from Nov1st . Where i live there are gatherings of a least 15 to 20 Thais drinking alcohol, playing load music, riding motorcycles drunk. from 8pm to early in the morning and nothing is said or done, Police know but never do anything.

I wonder if they have enough jail space to house the hundreds of thousands of tourists coming here, being led to believe Thailand is now open?

I can just imagine the potential tourists browsing the web, ready to book flights reading this and thinking 'fcck that' I'll go somewhere else.

The number of people visiting Pattaya will greatly exceed the number of people actually allowed to be seated in the enclosures at each venue. Chaos will ensue.

The predictable blade wielding gang fights might thin the numbers ????

Just get it over with and bring in Sharia law.

THIS IS WHY PEOPLE COME TO PATTAYA!!!

Drove from the north end of Pattaya Beach Road to Pattaya Klang, 4 Nov 4:00 p.m., and at most there were a dozen people who MAY have been tourists, they looked more like locals. Plenty of empty boats bobbing on the water with no guests, hardly any street traffic.

Word will get out - they haven't squelched social media yet. Come to Thailand, go through all that nonsense and expense just to get arrested at 10:00 p.m. for drinking beer like all good tourists do?

At least 30, they say. Don't they count those in attendance when they raid a venue? A few more hiding behind their paper glasses, perhaps?

and the optics to any would be tourists planning to visit Pattaya is to cancel their flight and go somewhere they can enjoy themselves.

No wonder I will not be returning to LOS with that sort of idiocy going on.

Did they not consider that just telling the owner to close the bar, and telling the customers what the law is, without actually arresting anyone would garner a lot less negative publicity on social media?

I'm certain the thought is they are broadcasting "a lesson" but it just reeks of authoritarianism, possible corruption and a very UN-FUN atmosphere. Good reason to head to Cabo or Cancun.

Adults arrested for drinking beer in paper glasses in non Muslim country. Ridiculous.

Dirty, foreign criminals.

I'm guess as we get closer to full opening (Dec 1?), more and more people will try and bend the rules.

At least 30 gives them wiggle room when the ones who for some reason had to visit an ATM on the way to the police station are no longer included in the amount.

i wonder how many will be arrested on the 19th Loy krathong may not be drinking alcohol but sure will be a GATHERING but i do believe its been allowed yeah i don't get it?

I have been involved in one of these situations. Taken to station herded up several floors to big bosses office, instructed to call our partners (thai) to come to station so that they may negotiate a suitable monetary donation which was decided at B20,000. Never processed downstairs as an offender, never advised of offence, though obvious,.Just a donation was required to those more needy. It was later strongly suggested by someone more knowledgable that the owner could not provide the necessary donation but could provide details of a more lucrative source, he disappeared from premises ten minutes before visit, there were five contributors.

Also, there is optics involved. The police make a token raid every now and then to show that they are controlling the situation. They get the media attention and then it's business as usual.

Not all the raids are publicized.  I know of a few now that never got mention by media.  Those arrested were eventually persuaded to pay anywhere from 5000 THB (owner knows right people) to 20,000 THB each. Some of those premises are back to serving alcohol in clandestine fashion.

I have also heard of one bar owner who convinced her customers that the BIB would not raid her bar due to her connections.  Lo and behold, the BIB arrived later and fined everyone with rumors the bar owner got a cut of the takings (this last one may or may not be true, but the cynic in me is thinking it may be true).

Maybe other bars do this too and pretend it was just bad luck to their arrested customers, but get to have another form of profit taking on the side.  Hence these customers are being set up by the owners.

You have to think, if the bar has been busted, who would keep serving and selling alcohol to customers - the cat is out of the bag so to speak.  Very suspicious if it continued IMO. Scumbag owners and hoodwinked customers.

Under glass half full, there were 30, count 'em, foreigners gathered.  I guess it's a start.

Idiots! Well done to the bib. Hopefully they get deported but instead they will join the crowd of bitter expats hating thailand but to in love to leave ????

I have no doubt some bar owners are in on the scam here, and said so in another thread some time ago, but why do you think the customers are "hoodwinked?"

They know they are breaking the law.  They take their chances.  They are not naive tourists, they are expats.

They would know if it's not the bar owner in on the scam it's one of the staff, and if it's not one of the staff it's the moto taxi guy out the front, and if it's not the moto taxi guy it's etc etc etc etc.

Why risk being fleeced for 20k baht or more, just for a few beers?

These open bars are just a honey pot for extortion.  Enter at your own peril.

They were the unbreakable cloudy glasses, the sort you get around swimming pools that sell drinks. The band was good, very loud rock music and probably 60-70 people there on Tuesday night.

I thought there would be a raid!
