Governments have been forced to apply restrictive restrictions as a result of the pandemic, which has produced long-term socio-economic disturbances.
Covid-19 has also revealed the vulnerability of global supply lines, which has contributed to the world economy's deterioration.

"Timely and widespread access to Covid-19 vaccines will allow the re-opening of countries, paving the door for the revitalisation of global trade and recovery from the epidemic," Brunei monarch Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah said.

His Majesty announced this at the La Nuvola Convention Centre (The Cloud) yesterday during the opening ceremony and first session of the G20 Summit.

His Majesty was greeted at the convention centre by Mario Draghi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy and Chair of the G20 Summit 2021.

The Sultan was invited to deliver a titah as a ‘Guest of the Chair,' in which His Majesty acknowledged the complementarity of Asean and G20 topics, which emphasises addressing people's needs by taking rapid collective efforts to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

His Majesty mentioned that Asean is putting in place its Comprehensive Recovery Framework to speed up regional recovery, and that it is looking into digital Covid-19 vaccine certificates to make cross-border travel and tourism safer.

His Majesty further remarked that mental health should be prioritised because its consequences will be costly to society and economy in the long run.

His Majesty emphasised that countries cannot address these issues on their own, and that a more global approach is essential.
