Number of vaccine doses administered in Thailand exceeds 80 million

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand is on its ninth day of having officially opened up to international tourists. More than 80 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, placing Thailand at the 18th spot among countries and territories with the highest number of doses administered.

The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) today disclosed the five provinces with the highest percentages of people who have been fully vaccinated. Bangkok came in first with 87.5%, followed by Phuket with 79.6%, Chonburi with 71.8%, Samut Prakan with 60.8%, and Phang Nga with 59.9%. These high percentages are thought to be the reason for the decline in new infections in Bangkok and Samut Prakan.

The responsible agencies are currently accelerating vaccination in the ‘Blue Zone’ tourism pilot provinces where some Covid restrictions are being eased. Nong Khai remains the only province within the Blue Zone where vaccine coverage has yet to reach 50%, although the number is getting close. Nong Khai currently has 48.7% coverage in general and 66.4% coverage for senior citizens.

The coverage rate has recently reached 50% in Udon Thani and Loei, which are also inside the Blue Zone. Udon Thani now has 51.6% vaccine coverage in general and 77.7% for senior citizens. Loei’s rate is 51.7% in general, and 67.4% for senior citizens.

The CCSA is encouraging the rapid pace of vaccination to be maintained in Blue Zone provinces that have already met their coverage targets, saying that Bangkok and Samut Prakan were proof that high vaccine coverage among groups at risk of severe COVID-19 symptoms results in greater safety for people in the respective areas by reducing infections as well as deaths.

Provinces with relatively low vaccination rates include Nong Bua Lamphu, Nakhon Phanom, Mae Hong Son, and Sakon Nakhon. The CCSA noted, however, that the focus in these provinces had been on senior citizens and people with chronic diseases.

Meanwhile, the CCSA has expressed concerns over the Kathina ceremonies that will be held around the country this month and noted that there have continually been reports of people infected with Covid attending funerals. The center continues to urge people to exercise caution and observe Covid prevention measures.

excellent, because I'm sick of the total nonsense world shutdowns as a 95 year old with chronic smoking diseases and unvaccinated has died

I'm sorry, I don't agree.  Even when they paid for it it was always months away and it was the consumer's risk to make that choice when a national vaccination campaign is ongoing, free, and vaccinatin

Eighty million divided by three equals, twenty six thousand six hundred and sixtysix, point six, six ,six, six, six, seven all the way to eternity. Less than one third of the Thai population including Farangs.

Forgot to pluralize Farang.

Now they need at least 80 million booster shots.

Better get the order in!

The quantities they say administered is as real as the millions of tourists flocking into Thailand … The % are TAT ones

a Booster isn't counted as a vaccination shot..only the first two, or one if it was J&J.  They still have a ways to go!

80 million doses to 70+ million population, 50% are said to be double dosed.

That's a lot of un-vaccinated people walking around.

They have really stepped it up in my small city in Issaan, the other day went to enquire about my yellow passport and it was packed full of Thais receiving their vaccine

How about those who have had no shots, still waiting for a second shot... never mind boosters.

I just looked at the vaccination figures, 4.7 mil in the last week, 670.000 / day average. Surely at that pace we should be getting there soon!

Soon if you reside in a blue zone apparently.

I posted on Facebook yesterday, when this story was released, look the the maths!!!

Thailand's population is about 70 million people - this includes about 11 million Thais aged 0-14 (who are generally not vacinated, yet), but it excludes all "aliens" in Thailand, most non-Thais born in Thailand, foreign workers (legal and illegal) and expats, who number maybe 5 million people.   But note also, about 1 millions Thais have received 3 shots of the vaccine - including most health workers and many military personnel, as well as some of the rich and powerful.

80 million vaccines administerd, means the average Thai has received about 1.1 shots; and millions in Thailand still without even the first shot (why all the COIVID clusters in factories and construction sites employing migrant workers?).

Can't help noticing that the 'National' News Bureau doesn't mention any province outside BKK & surrounds ...

When and where did she registered for Moderna. My wife registered with Vibhavadi Hospital and getting her shot tomorrow. I hope she will get her shot soon. Cheers.

Sorry, but that number is quite hard to believe.
But anyway, if this is the case, then why not just open all the bars, clubs and other entertainment venues?

Something is incorrect with either this number, or the numbers issued by MOPH.

80 M doses is a single dose for all the population with 10 M receiving a second Dose.

Or 40 M ( 56 % App ), of the  population receiving 2 Doses.

Does not Compute, when you read the above numbers.

This can only mean there are vast numbers of people still without a single dose.

Only 48% of the population are fully vaccinated........."ourworldindata"....still a way to go.

I'm sorry, if you decide to pick and choose your vaccine - and you're picking one that isn't readily available in this country - then you have no right to complain.

People certainly have a right to complain about the lack of availability of Moderna.

Many have paid for it.

And the regime seems intent on delaying its use for as long as possible.

Rubbish.

More AZ has been administered than any other vaccine by quite some margin.  Sinovac is not even close.

If you chose not to be a part of that then you have no right to moan about it in my opinion.
