Who is traveling to Thailand now that international airlines have returned 80% of their slots?

There has been a fair bit of frustration with the operation of the Thailand Pass website, with people reporting flaws preventing applicants from submitting their applications correctly, rejections, and issues with the Johnson&Johnson vaccine, as the website previously required two certificates. They waited two weeks before allowing the website to go live, indicating that Thailand had once again failed to meet expectations by failing to do enough pre-launch testing.

Mind boggling bureaucracy.

Proof of a double recognised vaccine, a PCR test before departure, possibly one on arrival.

Delete the rest of the hurdles.

Personally I think when they see the disaster arrivals coming for end of year - if they don't remove certain current demands - they may scrap some of it.

People need to plan holidays in 2022, they will be looking in early 2022 (if not now) for a destination and if they see all this nonsense now or early next year still continuing then they will look elsewhere. Most people don't impulse buy thai holidays, and thai pass is killing planning

I think tourists will be looking at what happened to the guy/family recently who tested positive, as well as the guy who tested negative yet was still detained.

Who the hell is going to risk that unless they have family here?

Well said.

It was why I scheduled my flights to the US in January with a return here in February, hoping the bugs would be ironed out, but I did by a fully refundable fare just in case the feces hits the fan.

I certainly don't know where they are coming up with these grandiose arrival numbers on limited flights, all of which are half empty on any given day.

True. But try to look at the bright side. The flights are half full????

I dont understand all the negativity. I see only two issues: The risk of hospitalisation because someone around you during the journey has been tested positively and the mask wearing. The risk of catching covid yourself is very slim with the appropriate precautions. I am here on a 14 day vacation using TP. TP works and is doable, only the approval has been a bit slow.  The mask wearing in that climate is really annoying and unnecessary outside, but seems to be expected as almost everyone wears one. Besides this, of course the bar scene is dead. Maybe its not such a big loss for Thailand to be free from those coming just for this.

Yes, 2 kinds of people, desperate or stupid!!!

Been sitting tight for months now hoping it would sort itself out and I could believe the efforts they were making . I'm glad I did because I was desperate to visit to catch up with a good friend , no its not a girl and I'm not gay lol , but I still dont believe their figures and theres not a chance in hell I would even attempt to go through the rigmarole needed to currently go . Instead I'm off to Portugal for 4 weeks , no restrictions , test on arrival and thats it. No stupid exorbitant insurance apart from a normal travel insurance that I always take out anyway at £65. Limited mask wearing and everything open so its a no brainer really. I know two travel agents where I live and there not booking anyone to Thailand apart from a few Thai nationals . So thats me now ,unless something drastic happens to improve the deal , till next November as not coming from April till October for obvious reasons.

You are sure is open ? Best check, now is close on this indication  https://www.kayak.com/travel-restrictions/portugal?origin=th

There is no way that airlines have taken up 80% of the slots. Most planes are still parked up and it will be months before they are even ready to fly, pilots are retrained and staff are brought back, but only if there is a demand for them, which there isn't.

Reading and comprehension difficulties? ????

The gov talks about their "6 International Airports" ... I believe only 2 - BKK and Phuket - are seeing any international flights.

Chiang Mai did have 1 flight last Fri from S Korea, but are any others getting flights and tourists coming in?

May I mention Hua-hin, Air Asia is flying from there to KL/Malaysia

Zero percent of my Thailand Pass has been approved. That's an issue.

once people in the West can see what a nightmare it is, even now, to travel here, and the associated costs...........the airlines will return even more slots.

its a shame........but with the present conditions, who in their right mind will come here for a holiday?

there are so many other countries that are a whole lot easier to travel to.

I reckon another year, maybe two.

And then, only if things are totally back to normal.

Until normal times resume.........forget tourism.

Luckily, I live here, nothing changed for me, and I continue to enjoy my time here.

But come here as a tourist at the moment?  No thanks

I want to go in March or April for a year or more, but this whole business with the asymptomatic false-positive unreimbursed hostile quarantine policy has to be eliminated by then or I don't think I can do it...

Right, based on facts, not speculation and hearsay. I used the TP and I am in BKK.

Ditto; my Family that wanted to come here have limited time for holidays and have now booked for Portugal instead as the Thai system cannot be trusted and is too complicated.   Thailand will lose millions of potential Tourists next year as people are already planning and booking holidays well into 2022 and even beyond.

and they have forgotten about buriram airport, to which they expect charter flights.

It's the city from where the transport minister is and from where bhumjaithai political party has it's mafia roots. Probably they count on marihuana tourists coming for legal treatments

Sadly for Buriram it looks like they have also lost their Moto GP slot for 2022 as Thailand has (not surprisingly ) been removed from the calendar

83 tourists arrived on a Jeju Air flight from South Korea's Incheon airport.

The flight touched down in Chiang Mai at 10.05pm.

Yes, but it wasn't a schedule flight has the op explained. They chartered the flight into CNX and then all staying at a golf resort in Lamphun province

There is a 3rd kind; those that think nothing of paying someone else to handle the hassles.

I'd add idiots, who are never concerned about the potential consequences of their actions.

Or people that are scared to upload a few documents and fill in an online form?

Totally agree, the requirements are not that difficult to comply with.

People expecting things to go back to normal ( pre-covid ) are likely never to travel again......

If really 80% of slots taken, then either a lot of almost empty planes landing, or alternatively a lot of unused slots!

After almost 2 years of virtually no tourists 90,000 people sounds like a lot.

Its not.

COVID is coming back big now in Europe, especially Germany.

I think its going to be lockdown again by January.

Airlines returning there slots until the new year is a more accurate picture of the tourist arrivals forecast for the coming months .Much more accurate that the hype from the  government  projections on tourist arrivals

Airlines are well experienced in forecasting and maximizing yields. This says alot about how few are going to visit LOS in the next six months.

I was peacefully sitting outside the other day, when I heard some engine noise over my heard. Shocked, I asked my girlfriend what was going on. She explained to me Chiang Mai airport was open to Korean flights. It was almost as surprising when I saw a Tuk Tuk when exercising the other day, and asked my girlfriend: "Oh. They still make Tuk Tuk in Thailand?", as it had been years since I had seen one!

They failed many times and never learned anything from their mistakes.

A slot is not a flight plan only a difference in terms.

Som nam na, I would say, those responsible TAT, CAAT and a lot of more idiots should be sacked.
