BANGKOK (NNT) - The number of daily COVID-19 infections is currently averaging about 6,000-7,000 with new cases in Bangkok hovering around 700-800 per day. An advisor to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) is urging the public to remain committed to public health measures in light of the stubborn infection numbers.

CCSA Advisor Dr. Udom Kachintorn said the country reopening to international tourists has proceeded smoothly but he remained concerned with the 6,000-7,000 daily new Covid infections, especially in Bangkok where the high daily numbers meant the infections graph could rise. He urged members of the public and venue operators to stringently adhere to disease control measures, especially those under the Covid Free Setting guideline and the ‘Universal Prevention’ scheme.

Dr. Udom expressed confidence in vaccines being able to reduce deaths and severe illness from Covid, saying 70-80 percent of the deceased were unvaccinated. Noting that most of the people who lost their lives to Covid were elderly people with chronic illness, he said it was necessary for senior citizens and individuals at high risk of developing severe symptoms from Covid to quickly receive the vaccine.

The CCSA advisor said the Ministry of Public Health now has a target to complete the administering of 100 million doses of vaccine within November, one month ahead of schedule. He noted, however, that he remained concerned over Covid clusters at Kathin events, funerals, and the upcoming Loi Krathong festival where large numbers of people will gather.

If the vaccination programme is a month ahead and over 100 million doses administered... why the concern over funerals and Loy Krathong..

surely people are now protected to a certain degree and should not need hospitalisation if infected.

Only those with underlying conditions are still at risk and they should take more care of their actions.

In Pattaya we had 55 new cases of covid on the 12th and Bangkok has 700 - 800 new cases every day so why are they allowed to sell alcohol at restaurants and Pattaya is not? It does not make sence.

We the people ask you government goons to commit. Stop blaming us. Why didn't you create any restrictions on infected Bangkok people, freely able to travel all over the nation, creating a continued spread of the virus? Who is really to blame here?

It is not us. It is not the foreign tourists. It is Prayuth and Anutin. The two chief culprits. Blame them. Allowing his own corrupt border officials to continue their franchises, by allow infected Burmese into the country, instead of locking up these immigration vermin and throwing away the keys, was just more evidence that this entire administration is a corrupt den of thieves.

90% of the blame of the current waves of Covid, fall squarely on the tiny shoulders of the failed leader. So much could have and should have been done. He must be held responsible.

The soldiers do not like the "dirty" barhopping farangs and don't give a sh!t about the many people in Pattaya who have lost their livelihoods, and many are not even involved in the bar scene.

If the unelected soldier posing as a PM saw his personal income going down, it would be a completely different story.
