Bangkok Business News said that a survey showed that seven out of ten Thais are ready to travel abroad.

They said they had been deprived of foreign trips for 2 years due to the pandemic and wanted to get back to normal, despite the threat of catching Covid.

The survey was the work of digital wallet group YouTrip in collaboration with Kasikorn Bank.

It should be noted that this was a survey of their customers rather than the Thai population as a whole, notes ASEAN NOW.

Those surveyed said they want to visit Japan, the USA and South Korea the most.

The survey was conducted at the end of October and beginning of November as Thailand was opening up once again.

The media interpreted this as Thais saying that if foreigners can come here, we want to go there.

  • Mind blowing and delusional . These surveys crease me up !!

  • As only 3% of Thais have ever left the country (and most didn't come back), I suspect this survey may be lacking in accuracy.

  • Meaningless advert for the flailing travel industry, poorly disguised as a survey.

So waste of time then like most of the surveys on here.

They are great for laughter only.

50 Million Thais are packing their bags and dusting their passports off and getting ready to fly abroad .

    50 Million .

They really should wait until foreigners can freely enter Thailand , or Thailand will be empty devoid of people with just old people and kids left in remote villages

Righto. One of the better surveys.

Simply reminds me of the old line - "Honey  pack your bags, I've won the Lottery".

Great she says, where are we going?

"Not us" I reply...."just <deleted>- Off".

Thailand the hub of people living in poverty and traveling overseas????????????.

I would not have thought 70% could afford to travel overseas, even in a normal year. Even in more developed countries 70% do not travel aboard annually. More utter tosh from the country of utter tosh filled with marketeers and snake oil sellers.

Yes they want to travel abroad so they can buy a beer or a glass of wine.

So 49 million Thais will be exiting the country to head elsewhere. Now that's worth waiting to see.

Economic immigration is not exactly travel and in some other surveys the majority of youth wanted to do so.
On fb there is a very large (around million) discussion group about packing bags for good. They share ideas about practicalities.
The thing is - borders are still no opened wide and consulates are not keen to give visas to all applicants. But the exodus will happen just after pandemic ends, whenever it will be

70% of the 3%.... that's the ticket.

I would say 90% of Thais don't have enough money to run the family home.

Foreign travel. what a delusional bunch of XXXXXXXXX.

I think somebody is telling porkies!

Sounds a bit more plausible then

So they'd have us believe that 50 million Thais have got the latest holiday brochures out and are checking the resorts in the Maldives? I doubt if 70% of Thais have ever left the country in their lives, apart from maybe illicitly popping across the border to the market in Cambodia, lol. Maybe I'm just a working class type of guy, but I can only think of one Thai person I know well who's ever really been abroad (she lived in Norway for a few years and hated it).

I'm thinking the headline on this news clip needs to be amended to truly reflect those surveyed.

I have worked in statistics for 20 years. so I was compelled to look into the survey methodology:

The survey result is based on user feedback from YouTrip a multi-currency mobile wallet for travelers. so 70%  is actually low, why do you need a multi-currency mobile wallet if you don't travel.

It's like going around asking people eating icecream that "Do you like icecream?" and you get a shocking result that over 90% of people like icecream.

Is travelling from BKK to Udon Thani a trip abroad?

And most have just that Chinese vaccine.

7 out of 10 can't speak 'Inglit'; so presumably 6 out of 10 will be on Tours following the one 'Inglit' speaking Guide with his Flag !

"The media interpreted this as Thais saying that if foreigners can come here, we want to go there."

I think a better interpretation is that this subset of relatively-wealthy thais know it is safe to travel internationally, and that in 6 months they expect that it will be less of a hassle to return to thailand.

That little critical piece is omitted from the above "news" item.  I would be surprised if more than 10% of Thais ever had a passport.

Abandon ship and let the captain go down with it? Isn't that what they are saying?

Traffic should be light for 6 months anyway. Hope the airport is geared up.

The 70% they are talking about are people that have the funds or the ability to get the money to travel.  It is not the Thai population which would have a hard time going on a holiday to Phuket let alone outside the countries.

LOL

Fake news?!?!?!

Where was the survey conducted, at Central Embassy or IconSiam or Siam Paragon?

15/70 million Thais are living in poverty; most Thais are struggling to make ends meet.

Maybe 70% of Thais want to get away from Prayut's Thailand?

Do 70% actually own a passport?

Yes to work in Korea an earn some real cash for 5 years ????

But will they be accepted abroad if they were vaccinated  with a vaccine  not accepted  by the country they are attempting  to enter?
