TAT predicts 18 million foreign tourists in 2022, spending 1 trillion baht

Just a guess but I don't think tourism will substantially recover until many restrictions/laws are changed or done away with.  Tourists want a destination that is more enjoyable and more entertaining than their homes.  They already have their upscale shopping malls so why spend a lot of money to go see another countries malls that possibly offer higher prices for similar goods they could buy at home.  The super rich tourists expected, have most likely worked, saved and invested to become that way.  They are smart with their money.  They will not put up with some insurance requirements needed to come to visit or live in Thailand.  For an older person the Thai companies 40,000/400,000 plan could cost well over 200,000 baht a year and there would most likely be exclusions for pre-existing conditions.  Why would anyone already with an international insurance company that covers accident or illness in Thailand even consider that?

...and I predict its all bunkum

Bunking 5555555555 .. TAT are the biggest joke globally .. The moment they open their mouths the world laughs…. Thailand will be lucky to get 100,000 and half of them will be in transit to real countries like Vietnam Cambodia or Laos

Children getting take from parents and put into field hospitals. So much so UNICEF had to speak out. Nope families won't come here. Only elderly sex tourists looking for cheap thrills.

More chance of Worgeordie getting a round in....

Time to revise your estimates Somchai.

Who do we believe Thanet Supharothatrangsi (and all his members) who actually rely on tourists for a living, to employ their staff, satisfy their shareholders, etc. or Yutthasak Suphasorn of the TAT who has made so many false claims over the last 2 years and relies on his BS and lies being believed to keep his job? Isn't about time that Thailand slimmed down TAT from its 2,000 plus staff worldwide in tune with all the tour operators, hotels, tourist companies, massage shops, retailers, etc., that are their members and pay their wages through membership fees? There aren't any tourists coming - yet they all seem to hold on to their gravy train, overpaid jobs - despite not delivering?

Employment costs for TAT must be high for the Thai tax payers with virtually no tourists . Not forgetting the  advertising campaigns that truly are a waste of money

What ? Sorry you're gonna have to explain that bizarre statement,  also what part of Pattaya opened ?

Everything  except  the bars, or selling alcohol in restaurants. right, no what is meant is that many expats have returned,  and the number of people in Pattaya has grown a lot.  As the media has. Stated 200k in October,  on certain sois, Not Soi 6 thanks to Covid and the NW monopoly,  but soi Honey, Buakow,  Pattaya Klang, Beach road.. and more actually  het lots of foot traffic.   Maybe not what it once was and many places are still closed, or torn down like Soi Made in Thailand,  but there is a lot of life here now.  Car rentals, bars posing as restaurants.   Things are open and the population has grown.

All of the reporting and methodology of data collection has been garbage for decades. Lots of activities horrible (TAT website) or nonexistent (CRM). The highest of emotions is a bouquet of flowers for every millionth visitor at the airport. Even too lazy to evaluate the back of the TM 6 cards (which also needs a lot of improvement). They collect the email addresses like stupid, but don't do anything with them. The last lowlight was the commercial with Prayut as the main actor. As a marketing specialist, you can only throw up. Useless, the whole lot.

But they are not officially open and allowed to serve beer or wine or God forbid a 'G n T'  I want to visit a proper restaurant and enjoy a decent meal with my mrs, and not looking over my shoulder for plod approaching looking for big handouts ( as my dodgy knees won't allow me to do a runner anymore ????). We used to eat out 3 or 4 times a week, at proper restaurants not beer bars masquerading as restaurants with difficulty making a toasted sandwich and serving beer in a T or coffee mug.

Not a criticism of your post but the truth of the situation.

As for STD's, I'll take your word on that. ☺????????????
