Thailand on Friday (November 26) reported 6,559 new COVID-19 cases, 6,875 recoveries and 64 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 5,807. Prisons: 752

▶︎ Recoveries: 6,875

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 2,066,023

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,966,538

Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,094,886 with 20,645 deaths.

The news comes as Thailand’s Medical Services Department signed a 500-million baht deal with MSD (Thailand) today (Thursday) to buy 50,000 courses of Merck’s Molnupiravir (Lagevrio) oral anti-viral medication for the treatment of COVID-19 infections.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who witnessed the signing at the Ministry of Public Health, said that treatment of people infected with COVID-19 requires effective medication and, to date, Thailand used Favipiravir and the herbal medicine, Fah Talai Jone.

There will be a CCSA meeting today to review the first four weeks of the #ThailandReopening. On the table are proposals for allowing people from approved countries to do the cheaper ATK rapid antigen test on arrival instead of the RT-PCR test. Some land borders could also reopen.

Yep, spreading quickly, already overtaken Delta and now dominates all infections and a a spike protein that is 'dramatically different' to the one which vaccines are based on. Its very worrying. Luckily South Africa is not on the list of Test and Go countries for Thailand entry but as we know new transmissible variants find their own way in.

New thread on it here

I was hoping, again, to visit my brother in Cape Town next April, again by that time hoping that SA would be on the list of approved countries.  Again, it's just now a wait and see.

Oh dear! Going totally the wrong way with a large increase over the previous figure of 61 cases.

In Hua Hin where we are now the hotel is doing a stellar job at checking everyone as they arrive or even return from the beach area.  Some of the foreigners I saw were reminded to wear masks upon returning to the property from the beach area. Saw many Thais drinking in large groups openly on the beach last evening.

Following on from proactive testing, today is meant to be a mass testing day for all staff in all entertainment venues in and around soi Bangla, Patong, one of the known cluster centres.....

Hopefully that will happen, with the last published testing stat it revealed a positivity rate of 6.1% so indeed more testing is needed. It was obvious there would be an uptick in cases once schools and Bangla was opened but with the aim that this is now endemic then keeping it under control with acceptable levels is vital to avoid a scenario that nobody wants to see again.

In the new updated color-coded map of #Thailand, there are no longer any provinces in the dark red zone. The highest level is now red and that has been reduced from 39 to 23 provinces. Safe Blue zone areas for tourists has been increased from 4 to 7 provinces.

BREAKING #Thailand's State of Emergency is to be extended again, until Jan 31. Night-time curfew is to be revoked from Dec 1st and "dark red" zone #COVID19 classification removed. Nightclubs and pubs are still set to reopen on Jan 16, but could be sooner if the situation improves

It has stagnated in this range of cases however. Tells us all that it is here to stay no matter what.

Cases up from yesterday. Deaths up from yesterday. Those in care down from yesterday.

New heavily mutated variant B.1.1.529 found in South Africa. 1 case travelled to Hong Kong.

In a media briefing Prof de Oliveira said there were 50 mutations overall and more than 30 on the spike protein, which is the target of most vaccines and the key the virus uses to unlock the doorway into our body's cells.

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-59418127

This new variant that has emerged in South Africa, has been described as " Horrendous " and the worst Mutation by far of any that have come previously.

Much worse than Delta apparently.

According to the US CDC, in a normal year deaths from influenza are 15.2 per 100,000 of population and COVID is 3 per 100,000 of population (in Thailand)

Results

We estimated an average of 389 000 (uncertainty range 294 000-518 000) respiratory deaths were associated with influenza globally each year during the study period, corresponding to ~ 2% of all annual respiratory deaths. Of these, 67% were among people 65 years and older. Global burden estimates were robust to the choice of countries included in the extrapolation model. For people <65 years, higher baseline respiratory mortality, lower level of access to health care and seasons dominated by the A(H1N1)pdm09 subtype were associated with higher influenza-associated mortality, while lower level of socio-demographic development and A(H3N2) dominance was associated with higher influenza mortality in adults ≥65 years.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6815659/

Global deaths from Covid-19 (widely seen as a substantial underestimate) as of today.

5,201,890.

It supposedly has a different spike protein. If that's true current vaccines will not work.   Round 3....ding ding ding.

Comparing apples and oranges. Care to show a link so we can see how Influenza and Covid are compared completely in each country and not one country with influenza and one country with Covid. Or are you trying to say Covid is Influenza, if so you bordering on conspiracy statements.

There you have it. Each province doing its own thing and resorts doing it as well.
