Mandatory quarantine required again?

So tp.consular.go.th (thailandpass site) have now this urgent announcement. No more test & go?

 

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT !

Starting 27 November 2021

Due to the recent detection of the new COVID-19 variant "OMRICON" in Africa, the Center for COVID 19 Situation Administration calls for new entry regulations for travelers from the region as follows:

1. The issuance of Thailand Pass for travelers from the following 8 countries will be temporarily suspended. In case of urgency, please contact the Royal Thai Embassy in Pretoria or the Thai mission in your area of residence.

2. The issuance of Thailand Pass for travelers from other countries will be limited to the 14-day AQ formality.

3. Thai nationals traveling from the above categories please contact the Royal Thai Embassy in Pretoria or in your country of residence for assistance.

List of Countries

1) Botswana

2) Eswatini

3) Lesotho

4) Malawi

5) Mozambique

6) Namibia

7) South Africa

8) Zimbabwe

ตามที่องค์การอนามัยโลกได้ตรวจพบไวรัส COVID-19 กลายพันธุ์ชนิดใหม่ OMICRON ในแอฟริกา นั้น

ศูนย์บริหารสถานการณ์แพร่ระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 (ศบค.) ได้กำหนดมาตรการในการเดินทางเข้าราชอาณาจักร สำหรับผู้ที่เดินทางมาจากประเทศในภูมิภาคดังกล่าว ดังนี้

1. ระบบ Thailand Pass จะระงับการลงทะเบียนชั่วคราวสำหรับผู้ที่เดินทางมาจาก 8 ประเทศ (ตามรายชื่อด้านล่าง) หากมีความจำเป็นเร่งด่วนที่จะต้องเดินทางเข้าประเทศไทย กรุณาติดต่อสถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงพริทอเรีย หรือ สถานเอกอัครราชทูต/สถานกงสุลใหญ่ไทย ในพื้นที่ที่ท่านพำนัก

2. สำหรับประเทศอื่นๆ ในภูมิภาคแอฟริกา (นอกเหนือจากในรายชื่อ 8 ประเทศ) ระบบ Thailand Pass จะรับการลงทะเบียนและอนุมัติการเดินทางเข้าราชอาณาจักร เฉพาะในรูปแบบ Alternative Quarantine (AQ) เท่านั้น โดยจะต้องถูกกักตัว 14 วัน โดยผู้เดินทางรับผิดชอบค่าใช้จ่ายเอง

3. บุคคลสัญชาติไทยที่เดินทางจากประเทศใน 2 กรณีข้างต้น กรุณาติดต่อขอรับคำแนะนำจากสถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงพริทอเรีย หรือ สถานเอกอัครราชทูต/สถานกงสุลใหญ่ไทย ในประเทศที่ท่านพำนัก

Quick google translate for the beginning of the second point where something about an "8" is missed in the English translation :

So it seems the mandatory quarantine is back for the "African region" excluding the 8 countries of the list who are just forbidden entry.

They likely won't need to bring it back for all countries to keep it out - because it will be in already and once that happens, well - there's no need to quarantine because it's here already.

 

However since delta hit Thailand they kept quarantines in place for many months without any good reason.

 

So they may do it but there will be no need.

You're right, but when have international travel restrictions on Covid ever been logical?

 

Since waaay before the Omicron hype machine even existed plenty of nations with community transmission had lengthy quarantines on arrival in place. Restrictions go up quick but come down slow.

It time that countries like Thailand will learn to live exist with he likes of Corona, Covid, Omicron and what ever <deleted> disasters will be coming our way and they WILL COME. yes take precaution by all means but don't ruin the country and people lives because of a pandemic...

The Thai version says 14 day mandatory quarantine for people from other african countries (8 african countries are banned). Looks like they skipped this word in the English version.

 

But looking at this, it could of course happen that if in the next week the cases of the new varient in Europe should rise, that suddenly Test&Go will be scrapped for them as well. So good luck planning a trip to Thailand.

Yes, now 14 days quarantine for everybody.

It's just not clear if this applies only to new Thailand Pass applications and if already issued Thailand Passes can still be used, or if they will declare already issued Thailand Passes as void.

Nice welcome for everybody who thought he could make a holiday in Thailand now.

So that would mean a real 14 day quarantine stay inside your room same as in the beginning or the Sandbox style quarantine where you can go around.

Time will tell I guess.

And it does seem to be only African countries at least for now.

This what a news article stated yesterday.

"The countries are Botswana, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

Additionally, nationals from these countries, where the new coronavirus variant known as Omicron has been found or who are at risk of spreading it, will not be allowed to apply to enter Thailand, effective today. Those already granted permission to enter Thailand must arrive before December 15th and will be subject to state quarantine for 14 days and three COVID-19 tests."

I might be missing something, but I think it says the same thing.  If you are coming from Africa, it's a mandatory 14 day quarantine?????

It is certainly not for every country in the world.

What the news article has in it is correct. If people from those 8 countries already have a Thailand Pass they can enter until December 15th but have to go into a 14 day quarantine.

Richard said every country in Africa, not the world.  14 day quarantine mandatory.  A 14 day quarantine make sense.  Just hope it doesn't get extened to all countries like before!!!!  But it's entirely possible.  Israel just shut it's borders and so have a few other countries.
