It is preposterous to suggest that governments are not at all motivated by the public health aspect of this virus. Meanwhile, it is no secret that the anti vax sentiment is overwhelmingly driven by the far right.

In the UK it is driven by the Left and their socialist mates.

So far, it's not panning out that way.  These guys explains things quite nicely.

Interesting. So my optimism kind of wanes by reading that. What did stand out from Dr Eric Ding was the chart of most hospitalisations being kinds under 5! This is definitely a different animal altogether... which makes sense, given the very large number of mutations compared to other variants.

Lol. 4000 plus cases daily in Thailand for the past 6 months and you are worried about a few hundred travellers from south Africa who may, may have a milder version of the virus.

Lol. Please give it a spell.

4000 cases down from over 20k, from a variant very similar to Delta.  And not proven to be milder.  Proven to be more transmissible.  Cause for concern for sure.  Panic?  Perhaps not yet.

Folks are waiting for a decent vaccine.  the smart ones that a left unvaccinated don't want ass zeneca or Chinese surprise.  If the authorities want the country fully vaccinated the need to stop blocking the legitimate vaccines people want.

Astra Zenica is a very good vaccine ,do your homework ,also if a booster is johnson it is very very good.

If go to last 6 weeks the down trend is even more pronounced image.png.3fa59b34d992d7fc521ed5bbc80b42de.png

Because they've gotten to ones easy to reach.  Trying to get the ones up country or out on remote islands is much harder.  Easy to find people in the big cities, which have high vaccination rates.

They are doing about 500k per day.  About what they've been doing for months.

Rest assured that Omicron is already here, it’s just not been detected yet. In my home country (Holland) they scrambled to get travel bans in place last week, but it turned out that Omicron had already arrived a week earlier. From what I understand so far, though, Omicron may be a mild(er) variant. Apparently when a virus mutates, it does so to become more contagious, so it can infect more people, but in doing so it loses some of its punch. Doctors/experts who know more about this, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Up to 60 infections in Norway
Omicron outbreak after Christmas party raises questions
The largest omicron outbreak outside of South Africa could have occurred in Norway. But the authorities say it is still too early to make precise statements about the difference to the Delta variant.

Around 120 colleagues, all vaccinated against Corona, meet for a Christmas party. More than half of them will later test positive for the dangerous virus. How is that possible? And how does a participant's previous trip to South Africa and the evidence of the Omikron variant for 13 celebrants so far relate to it? The case in the Norwegian capital Oslo raises many questions - but it could also help to understand the portability of Omikron.

The Christmas party took place on November 26th in the «Louise» restaurant in Oslo. At the invitation of their employer, the Norwegian solar energy company Scatec, around 120 employees come together for a meal. One or one of them recently returned from South Africa, where scientists announced evidence of the new Omikron corona variant the day before the Christmas party.

"They were all vaccinated, none of them had symptoms and they had all done self-tests," says Oslo health officer Tine Ravlo. She assures that the celebration took place within the framework of the Corona requirements and that “no rules were broken”.

No severe symptoms
Nevertheless, a week later there is no more party mood: 64 participants have a corona infection. In 60 of them it was detected with a PCR test, in four others only the result of the less precise antigen test is available for the time being. The Omikron variant was detected in at least 13 cases. Sequencing is still ongoing and further Omicron infections are considered likely.

None of the infected has so far developed severe symptoms. Most suffer from mild ailments such as headaches, sore throats and coughs, according to Ravlo.

It is even possible that “at least half of the 120 participants were infected with the Omikron variant during the celebration,” says Preben Aavitsland from the Norwegian Institute for Public Health. The case in Oslo would be “the largest omicron outbreak outside of South Africa”.

No its not been 500 for months.

On December 1st (1st, 2nd and 3rd average jabs per day)

-  7 day average =   452,012

- 14 day average =  465,535

- 30 day average = 571,239

One when clearly see its slowing down.

Nitpicking a bit? Pretty darn close to 500k.
