Like what? Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Costa Rica, Colombia, Portugal, where? I would think any such opinion of "nicer" (meaning what? exchange rate, people, government, visa, climate, cost of living, food, scenery, healthcare, entertainment?) would be rather subjective but since you seem to know this as fact, please enlighten us on those much nicer places. Thailand has its downsides so I'm interested in learning of where it would be nicer for all of us?

Colombia for one, virtually no restrictions to enter, no tests, no quarantine, no insurance, two oceans, mountains, rain forests, cheap, friendly people...  One has to be aware of the surrounding, but it's not like tourists don't get robbed, raped or killed in Thailand.

I did a thread on this subject earlier, and regarding Latin America, yes a good time can be had with all the trimmings for comparable prices, and learning the language is a piece of cake. Believe it or not they actually use 1 2 3, and A B C. Most down there speak a little or a lot of English, anyway. If you want more info go to costaricatics.com. The flavor runs dark to light, blond to brunette.  Avarage hotel 40 to 80 USD. Companionship 50 to 100 USD. Obviously many cities offer sun sea, and sand, and "real fishing charters" where trophy Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Wahoo patrol  the waters. Up until I started my Asian experience in 2009 I spent most of my free time in Latin America.  What brought me to Asia? Diving, started out in the Philippines, then all over Asia spent a lot of time in Cambodia, Burma, Lao, (not for diving). And of course Thailand where I met my future wife while buying a condo. Now we are stuck here in the USA hoping to get back to Thailand when things calm down if ever?

Considering how widespread and infectious omicron is, i don't see how quarantining a select group makes sense.
It's like mobbing with the water tab wide open.
It will not have a noticable effect on stopping the spread.

Also it's already become clear that omicron is nothing more than a rebranded common cold.
(almost zero ICU patients)

Imho the fearporn and continuing enforced measures around omicron ist just to lengthen the lucrative medical business opportunity that pharma companies, government elites and certain key figures are making use of to fill their pockets.

In my country f.e. it has been know for years that even the regular annual flu vaccine has little to no helpful effect, but that doctors get around 12 dollars/ patient for pushing the vaccine.

Too bad. Not worth the risk of travel if going with another person or more. An associated story from that link. Same thing.

Covid-positive Danish journalist Henrik Qvortrup forcibly admitted at Thai hospital - Scandasia

Every one traveling to Thailand during this covid periode has to blame him self for ending up in a hospital.

^^ Bit presumptuous and cynical. Could have caught it anywhere, most likely airport-flight. Maybe you can get the shaft yourself someday so we can all gloat.

Do think however you’ve got to be a bit loopy to want to holiday in Thailand at this time, given their current Orwellian policies.

yes i understand  .. i used to be sympathetic of these people but after 2 years going on 3 and seeing all of the usa anti vax anti mask anti science   .. and other countries

i have given up  ....  efff them all   i repeat efff them all

Lived in Spain, visited the Canary islands. Honeymooned and later vacationed 3 times to Caribbean islands, and outside a couple resort enclaves, Mexico is a disaster in all respects. Next!

You're a bit late. I enjoyed Acapulco and Gran Canaria very much, Tenerife was disappointing but the advantage is only 4,5 hours flying time from Europe. Caribbean I visited several times Curacao, Aruba, St. Martin and Cuba and it was nice so don't tell me it's not a good alternative for Thailand.
