January 7, 20224 yr Popular Post 4 hours ago, Trip Hop said: It appears that the UK has assessed the threat level of Omicron and how fast it spreads, acknowledged that it’s in and there’s very little that they can do unless they go into a full lockdown, which the government and a lot of the people don’t want because of all the financial implications to businesses and curbs to individuals freedom. Therefore they have made the call to get on with it with a few restrictions as long as it doesn’t overwhelm the country. Whether it is the right call is yet to be seen but even if Thailand was to close its borders, at some point it will get in as per the last outbreak via legal/illegal migrant workers and outbreaks will occur. Therefore whilst I appreciate the need to protect the people, I somewhat feel that all Thailand is doing is delaying the inevitable as this will not stop until everyone has been infected to a certain degree and some form of herd immunity is achieved. In the meantime a lot of the people are suffering due to the state of the tourist industry which I can’t see recovering for a long time due the continual rule changes and forced hospital quarantine if you are found to be positive? Therefore I feel this current cycle of bars opening/bars closing is going to be here for quite a while yet, until Thailand is ready to take that big step? I do feel though that they would most probably be in a far better position to possibly take that step if the current administration had acknowledged the seriousness of the virus 2 years ago, possibly joined Co-Vax and got their vaccination program underway far earlier with decent vaccines? And your last paragraph is the real reason why UK is going to get over all this long before Thailand - VACCINATION!!! Whatever else UK has done wrong (and there is plenty) the vaccination effort has been magnificent. Edited January 7, 20224 yr by VBF

January 7, 20224 yr So was about to book my flight, then Thailand restarted quarantine and now bars closed again! When will they learn, get vaccinated with a decent type ie, not rubbish Chinese water and let Covid run its life out!
January 7, 20224 yr 1 hour ago, James105 said: Are they letting people drink alcohol in factories and hospitals then, as that is (by a significant margin) where covid has been spreading the most? Closing pubs does not "prevent infection" at all, it simply moves it into peoples houses or condo rooms or wherever else they can find to socialise instead. Your theory is only correct in a strictly controlled environment where the closure of the pub is combined with harsh measures to also prevent people socialising in non pub environments. Since that has never been the case here (and is nigh on impossible to enforce outside of totalitarian countries such as China/North Korea/Australia) the only thing that is achieved is the destruction of peoples business and increased poverty. For evidence see April to October 2021 in Thailand where all pubs were closed and covid reached 20,000 a day at its peak several months after pubs were forced to close. I believed that the October 2021 surging infection started from super spreader pubs in Thonglor. You should also add prisons, nursing homes as places with high infections together with factories (not too sure about hospitals). These places are better organized to handle outbreaks. They have records of their employees and thus better system to manage an outbreak. Customers walk in and out of pubs making idenfication and movement control impossible once they leave the premise. I agree it is tough for socialising and for business but necessary to mitigate infection from an uncontrollabled sources like pubs and clubs. Edited January 7, 20224 yr by Eric Loh wrong paragraph

January 7, 20224 yr @chrissables Actually after watching i think the guy is totally on many things. He said Sweden was a succes while its now known it was NOT and that had they tried the same strategy in an other more crowded country it would have been disastrous. So to be honest I have not much faith in the guy after having discovered this. The interviewer got the answers she wanted, that is not interviewing that propaganda. That once alcohol flows people forget about social distancing and rules and bar owners cant and wont enforce. I mean its the truth. Now if i was an alcoholic or a bar lover I would not be that happy with this logic either because it deprives me of my fun. But it does not change the fact that this logic holds. (unfortunately) I could not care less if bars are open or closed but the logic holds and bars are ideal for spreading covid. There is a reason why in the west they closed bars and clubs first too. Its not just Thailand. Many on this forum are here for the bars the girls and are now bored to death. I get it. But nobody likes this. I would have loved for all this to be over and have a holiday with my parents. But with these rules im not letting them come over. Only thing stopping you getting a holiday is a lying politician and political spoofery … When time is right the magic tablet will appear and your special passport 5555555555555555

Pub would be English-Irish themed. In which category do the following fall ? Gentlemen's Club, Beer Bar, Gogo Bar, Disco/nightclub. So will Insanity be allowed to open and serve chicken nuggets in a crowded place filled with people having Belvedere and Black Label bottles on each table ? Are gogo bars allowed to open with "hostesses" serving club sandwiches ?

The pubs and other entertainment places could stay open, albeit with a reduced monthly profit, just to tick over and not go totally bust, while the country goes dry for 6 weeks or something. Instead of messing about categorising different establishments into this or that, food or no food, "pub-like" or "not pub-like". Just ban alcohol already including at 711. Probably be doing many people, especially those that have a hard time avoiding consuming it, a real favour in the long term.

And send plain-clothes enforcers all around the areas of known historical non-compliance, and make sure they (or rather their unit) have the power to revoke whatever type of licence the place has if caught. Enforcers would need to be part of a 'special unit' operating as a team, and they should be assigned to localities/districts which they would not usually visit in their normal line of duty. This would help to avoid local corruption at the Kweng level.
