Why would anybody want to know how many people in Thailand have a cold?

It's over, get out from behind the sofa and get on with your life.

In Canada the record number of people are in hospitals and ICU. But then again Canada is not a country that's fudging the numbers. I understand it's pretty much the same situation in every country that cares about its citizens.

Sounds like a great life.

If you don't need to go out and have all you need then why wouldn't it be a great life.  Being concerned of ones health and the AQI causing  issues is something that does affect all. Like staying at your house, you have a yard, you have a pool, and if you have a family is there a need to go out and run around?

Down to 9 in the Condo now in all rooms, and yet outside is still 97.

It was a good investment I made recently, (about a month ago), having procrastinated for 5 years, or whenever this seasonal smog started. The first and second year purifiers were sold out when I tried to buy them, and then I was refurbishing, so no need. Well worth it. Not sure how much it will increase my electricity bill, but a price worth paying.

Sandbox tourists may not transit in Bangkok to Phuket, but can to Samui

PHUKET: Sandbox tourists travelling to Phuket, including those coming to stay in Phang Nga and Krabi, are not allowed to transit through Bangkok, an official announcement issued by the Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin has revealed.

My wife got home last night after attending to her dads funeral after a period of sickness (old age). She did an ATK (nasal) before boarding the flight, negative, then one again on arriving home (saliva), positive. She is now isolating in the bedroom, no symptoms as yet, the bedroom has en suite facilities and is large so its not a huge inconvenience. No she has not reported it.

We know of multiple people here in Phuket who have it and the school my daughter goes to although now back online they have informed us that even if they were onsite learning then a large proportion of the students would be off as they are positive.

Its rife here as it probably is now throughout all the major hubs of Thailand. The testing figures are an insult to everyone, no official published figures for a long time and a total disregard for letting people know the true extent of the spread.

Am I to believe then that Omicron is being picked up from saliva and not nasal test, this could be the reason tourists are going positive on arrival, best wishes to your wife.

That makes about as much sense as saying no one can fly from BKK to Phuket.  If I wanted to fly to Phuket from the US I would have to transit through BKK as there are no direct flights.....how do people expect to travel if there are no direct flights.  Maybe from Germany there is, but yet I thought they had designated sealed routes for transit passengers.

The general consensus from the experts is that it replicates faster in the throat in the first 3 days so nasal swabs may not be as effective in that period.

Omicron is being found in the throat first before the nasal passages.

Sore throat appears to be a common, early symptom of an Omicron infection.

Patients in South Africa, the UK, and the US reported scratchy throats prior to other symptoms.

Omicron could infect the throat before the nose, unlike other variants, some experts say.

Starting to sound like a repeat of last year when someone was rejected from 3 hospitals.  Are the hospitals already overwhelmed?

Just about 3 weeks ago, we had a new one, called IHU, coming from Africa, Cameroon and already in France

Today, we happily announce the birth of again a new one, we call it deltacron, coming from Cyprus

A mix between delta and omicron virus.

The ones we had before and maybe still there:

 Alpha (B.1.1.7)
Beta (B.1.351)
Gamma (P.1)
Delta (B.1.617.2)
AY.4.2*    454
Mu (B.1.621)
Lambda (C.37)
Omikron (B.1.1.529)

NIce  live graph of how the world is doing now

We are on a long way to get rit of covid and probably never will again.

All the panic, the cancellation of test and go, and the final nail in the coffin of tourism. And for what? A mild variant? More cases and few deaths?

Is a dead economy and millions out of work long term, really worth avoiding some people getting sick? Such a sickening and paniced over reaction.

This is NOT the Zombie Apocalypse!

Hospital up by 3000 odd on yesterday, as said concentrate on hospital numbers.

How many NEED to be in hospital though? I bet only 10% of them. 2 of my wife's young students from her college were carted off to hospital a week ago with minor symptoms. They are still stickign with the old policy of isolation. This just won't work here if numbers hit 30-40K a day. Sadly, it seems that such an increase is needed to force their hand and allow those with minor symptoms to isolate at home. We are all going to be exposed, eventually.

Posted

Finally. A voice of reason in the wilderness of insane panic, fear mongering and bizarre escalations of restrictions, and the even more stupid and severely ill informed knee jerk decision to cancel test and go.

Deaths are all that matters here. Climbing numbers and fewer deaths. This Omi appears to be a blessing. It could be the beginning of the end.

Thailand to procure more COVID-19 test kits and speed up distribution amid new wave

To meet rising domestic demand, Thailand’s Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) to procure more rapid antigen test kits, or ATKs, and for the National Health Security Office (NHSO) to accelerate the distribution of about one million already in stock.

Covid infected people who enter home isolation will be monitored and provided with medicine, food, thermometer and oximeter, the government spokesman Thanakorn said on Monday amid criticisms that many infected people are being left to their own means at home.

Anutin did mention fleetingly during a statement he made within the last couple of Days, that there was and upsurge again of the Delta variant, as well as the Omicron Outbreak.

Maybe this is the reason for the slight uptick of ventilated numbers

But this was Anutin speaking, so who really knows ?

Problem with low testing, low numbers to sequence and see which variant is circulating. Knowing true case numbers gives you an idea of how virus is spreading and planning to be taken place for health services, etc.

I certainly won't be sneezing in my mask ever. I will pull it down and sneeze in a tissue.

Sometimes I get very little warning. Masks are there to stop your virus laden spit coming out of your mouth when you are talking and virus laden sneeze particles coming out of your nose at a high rate of speed. Wash the mask if washable or replace. Personaly I don't see the problem. It's what the masks are for.
