BANGKOK (NNT) - Internationalliving.com has ranked Thailand the best destination in Asia and the 11th best in the world in its 2022 global retirement index.

According to the website, the rankings and indices are based on various factors including the cost of living, food, medical cost, visa convenience, weather, things to do, tradition, and culture.

The website said Thailand has always been popular among retirees from around the world because the country does not offer only beaches and other beautiful natural attractions but also convenient places as well as friendly locals.

Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Hua Hin of Prachuap Khirikhan are the top 3 cities among retirees. Foreigners can choose to live for different costs of living starting from 1,000 US dollars or around 33,000 baht per month.

Thailand is also well-known for its affordable and high-quality healthcare which is one of the first things retirees seek for healthy and secure living after retirement, while applying for and obtaining a long-stay visa is also easy and fast.

Meanwhile, this year’s top 10 countries for retirement are Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Portugal, Ecuador, Colombia, France, Malta, Spain, and Uruguay.

Two years of Covid lockdowns and restrictions - then this.
Pathetic joke at best which obfuscates the realities of a xenophobic country and their Immigration laws and practices, as well as completely ignoring the Covid situation as though it doesn't exist.

Problem is, when Thais read this garbage they are likely to believe it and think it's true! Probably why their national news outlet is regurgitating it!

BIG BS

Many foreigners have noticed how welcome they are, how good they are taking care for..... I feel sorry for the population, but the Government talks a lot but don't really want the foreigners.. Many examples of the last year. For those who think different several embassies had to vaccinate their citizens here, because of all kind of problems,    Yes Thailand is beautiful, the food is delicious, most people are very friendly, but rules makes us feeling not welcome

????????????????????????????

Good one.

But, yeah no, what are the other countries in Asia? China, North Korea etc.

In all the years I’ve known, Thailand has never been so inconvenient.

I lived in Thailand for 10 years and I like Colombia much better

Maybe if they offer us an simple no strings attached global retirement visa.

A big top 10 factor, particularly for US and UK retirees, is obviously geographical - Mexico and France springing immediately to mind. Thailand can never compete on that score.

Many other retirement rankings such as "Best Countries for a Comfortable Retirement" where Thailand ranks lower (#20) between Dominican Republic #19 and UK #21.

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/best-countries-to-retire

78 countries in this ranking.

Now I know it's a hoax.

Anywhere is paradise if you can stand the rubbish.

sure thailand has some great things going for it ,but visas . a blatently racist govt and policy, and a mind boggling reply to covid, mexico and in many other latin states this isnt the case,if your fully vacced your good to go regardless of ethnicity.i have a long term visa i just wish to leave for 2 mnths and return ummmmm.most other countries are now relaxing restraints but here............this is the mildest form of the virus to emerge so far please tell the never ending list of incompetent govt officials this, its time to move on this is dangerous to a minimal no of our population ,well under 1% , 13 people died yesterday  how many on the roads so obviously the govt is going to stop us using vehicles as theyre so concerned about our welfare.

Maybe Thailand would be more attractive if they had a welfare system for expats.
This way expats  with barebones  income and no health insurance can be eligible for welfare benefits.

Hello ,

Yes a lot of Expats Retire here in Thailand ???? Including myself I’m a Retired American ???????? Living in Thailand ????

Expats inject a lot of money into Thailand’s economy directly and indirectly, Meaning land and homes for there Thai Wives or Girlfriends.

Yet sometimes Thailand treats us as second rate individual’s !

Examples :

1. I remember when Anutin the Thai health minister called us dirty Farang !!

2. Dual pricing of services and products in Thailand, Should be illegal.

3. Immigration Policies are difficult, Not one !! Immigration Office is the same with policies and the process , Yet there’s Immigration laws in the Thai law books that explain it in one way and one process.  ?

Well I can say at least for myself these are 3 key sticking points living in Thailand, But I still love living here and most are always smiling and friendly in Thailand in comparison to the rest of the world ???? ????

Safe , Healthy , Prosperous and Happy 2022 to all !! ????

Note that International Living lists Bali as a country, as if it had its own immigration laws. IL is company that promotes real estate investments in many of the countries it lists. And they do not take into account current immigration realities (as in Covid restrictions on travel).

I take it you are referring to immigration rules, because I cannot understand any other rules that you could be referring to.

Not feeling welcome is with you, i.e. it's inside your head, what do you expect them to do, roll out the red carpet ?

I don't have a problem with following immigration rules, 90 day online reports, chalk and cheese, annual extension, chalk and cheese, it's time consuming and an effort, but hey, it gives me 12 more months to stay away from the nanny state I used to live in, so I have to put in the effort, just the same as I would if I was working to earn my wages, except, I am not working and I have all the time in the world.

Their country, their rules, if you don't like it here, there are other countries you can try to see if you feel welcome, but I believe what's in your head won't go away unless you let it go.

I don't expect Thai's to say good morning to me or talk to me, but I get it, those that don't speak English are shy and I have proven it time and time again, a smile says a thousand words, so next time a Thai is looking at you, try smiling and I will bet you 9/10 times you will get a smile back. When I do meet a Thai who speaks a little English, they will talk forever because it's good practise for them and makes them feel confident that they are actually communicating with another being from another planet.

Don't pay to much attention to the likes of the Anutin's of the world, he doesn't represent Thai's at all, he is just an egoistical rich mummies boy who didn't get a spanking when he was younger.

I feel very welcome here, and realise that the Thai's are not up to scratch when it comes to speaking a second language, i.e. English, as much as you don't speak a second language, i.e. Thai, and we are in their country, so it's up to you to make yourself feel comfortable, I would never expect them to roll out the red carpet for me, or even smile at me first, it's just not a thing they do, so don't feel to proud.

Oh by the way, I am not saying for you to go out there with a plastered smile on your face, just smile when approaching a Thai and see what happens, and if they don't smile back, don't let it get to you, could be a million reasons for it, the world we live in is not a perfect place and they could think you are acting weird or they have a lot of thoughts racing through their minds, no doubt Thai's more than us fortunate enough to be retired. I mean I wouldn't be smiling making the wages they make working and trying to buy land or a house or repaying a house or a car and not being able to afford an overseas holiday etc etc.
