The Bualuang mBanking (Bangkok Bank) App Is A Malicious Threat?

Interestingly, I have just looked at the reviews for the Bangkok bank app on the Google play store starting from today other people have highlighted the same problem that I'm having. Good to know I'm not alone at least.

What version are you running?

It looks like a new ver. dropped on Friday. 3.14.0

This new version does take a bit long(er) to load, a bit strange I think.

That must've broken something and is causing these issues.

What program are you running which "scans" and presents this message?

See this message on the Play Store, so something is broken.

Bangkok Bank PCLJanuary 23, 2022
We apologize for any inconvenience caused. The Bank acknowledges and is conducting an investigation for our service improvement.

The new version seems to run on my phones, Android 11 and Android 12. Paid a bill, seems OK for me.

WHAT'S NEW
New features
• Suspend debit card
• Request for debit card: add Be1st Smart TPN Rabbit Siriraj
• Adjust the daily limit for international funds transfer
• Send an e-Card with your transfer as a gift for occasions such as for Chinese New Year, weddings, birthdays
• dStatement service: a convenient and secure service to request and send bank statements between banks

When using a iPhone you have other things to worry about!!

Still better than having to worry about malware that can potentially steal a ton of personal & confidential info about you.

Such vulnerabilities in iOS, while they do exist, they cost and knowledge needed to exploit them is way bigger. A script kiddie even could hack your Android if you are fool enough to open something he fooled you into opening.

Unlike iOS Android has no measures to stop an app you've allowed to run from stealing your data (like iOS has the sandbox or entitlements).

You gotta know your stuff, buddy.

I am on iPhone as well, but what is the point of this brand doesn't have this problem comment???

The OP has a genuine question and no need to judge his reason why uses an Android Phone or that another brand is better!!

While I agree with what you've written.

Nowadays iPhones not always are more expensive than their Android counterparts. So for someone who is not tech-savvy enough, using an iPhone may be more hassle free, and the cost will be similar to that Huawei he is using.

That was all I meant, as an advise, maybe next time choose an iPhone.

If you are concerned about this , An easy Fix is Use your Laptop/Desktop PC  for Internet banking . I do.

I only use a Mobile Phone for Phone calls

With Bangkok Bank, the mobile app is, IME, much better than their web platform for paying bills, and remote/mobile payments. And I don't have a long enough extension cord for my PC.

But you might not know that as you only use your phone for phone calls.

Using it since years. Multiple times scanned the phone with antivirus SW (on demand) and nothing found.

Just did a scan with the built in security scan and nothing found (Samsung phone, Android 8.x).

Former scan were with Avira.

exactly same here, many years with this app, many virus-checks, never any problem! also Samsung Android!

In my Home Country there are lots and lots of reports about this and what they all have in common is that it only Happens on Huawei phones!

I have a Vivo phone and the same thing happened to me. Uninstalled it and downloaded a new app from the Play Store. So far ok.

the Bangkok bank app has now updated itself again

3.14.1

Play Store slow to show the new version though (I'm on the U.S. Play Store.)

Kudos to them for acknowledging the issue, and fixing it so quickly. Impressive.
