What is the exact procedure to change an extension based on work permit (Bangkok) to retirement (Pattaya)?

I'm over 50 years old, and I have the funds required (funds have not been touched for a long time). My next extension is due beginning of March.

Someone told me I have to cancel the present extension first (immigration at Chaeng Wattana), and also to contact the Labor office (Din Daeng)  to have my work permit cancelled. Is this correct information? If this is indeed correct, will an agent in Pattaya be able to help me avoid this red tape? I'm not interested in avoiding the financial requirements though. Is there anyone here who has knowledge about an agent who can be of assistance? Thanks in advance.

You apparently are on a extension of stay based upon working for a company. You will need a letter from the company to cancel you current extension and they should cancel you work permit to get proof it it was canceled to show immigration. You can do the cancelation a few days before the date on the letter and immigration will post date it to the date is on the letter to give you time to apply for a extension of stay based upon retirement at immigration in Pattaya.

You will need to have 800k baht in a Thai bank for 2 months on the day you apply or proof of 65k baht income.
