BANGKOK (NNT) - The Labour Ministry said about 90,000 migrant workers have been requested by business operators since Thailand opened registrations for employment requests for workers who will enter the country under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos in December 2021.

According to Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin, 1,349 applications have been submitted by employers for 90,071 migrant workers. 72.2% are requests for workers from Myanmar, 20.9% are requests for those from Cambodia, and 6.8% are requests for workers from Laos.

The Labour Ministry said that the first group of 158 Cambodian workers is undergoing quarantine in Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province. They are fully vaccinated and have health insurance that covers Covid-19 treatment. The workers will be delivered to their workplaces after their quarantine period is over.

Pairoj Chotikasathien, Director-General of the Employment Department, stated that 220 workers were originally permitted to enter the country on February 1. However, 35 people were not ready to travel to the country, while another 27 were denied visas after being found to be on the blacklist due to illegally departing the country while they were previously authorized to work in Thailand. He recommended all migrant workers who desire to work in Thailand respect Thai labour rules that apply to their employment situation.

what is wrong with employing Thai people for these jobs, there are plenty (several million) out of work  !!!!

the same like US, UK and other european countries employing a lot of foreigners: because they accept lower wages and have lower overall costs for the employer.

There are more than double the amount of Thai 'Men' they are looking for swinging in Hammocks, smoking Weed and/or drinking Beer all over this country whilst their Wives are out working until silly o'clock to support the Family.   Round up these lazy Locals and 'make' them work !
