More community isolation centres will be set up in Hua Hin to handle the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the district.

Officials in all seven sub-districts have been ordered to survey potential locations for community isolation centres (CI), Hua Hin Sheriff Mr. Krit Phuangvalaisin has confirmed.

Mr Krit was speaking at a meeting at the Ritthiruechai Special Combat Training Centre in Huai Sat Yai which has recently been made into a CI centre.

The centre can accommodate up to 80 patients, Mr Krit said.

failed vaccination

Certainly true.

BEIJING, Feb 22 (Reuters) - "Antibodies triggered by a third dose of Sinopharm's COVID-19 shot given to those who completed its primary two-dose regimen dropped sharply after six months, and a fourth shot did not significantly boost them against Omicron, a Chinese study showed."

COVID "Colds" must be getting worse in Thailand:

I would like to see the prevelance of Delta vs Omicron variants circulating in Thailand.

Total suppression (a Zero covid policy) will keep Delta circulating permanently.

Don't assume that Omicron is the prevelant strain, when Omicron gets to 99% and above things should change - I don't think we're anywhere near that just yet - and that's directly due to government policy.

There's no Delta circulating in Thailand now... MoPH has publicly reported that several times of late. It's all Omicron.

Won't these people cross infect each other?  If one has Omnicran and another Delta and another a different version; won't they just make each other sick with the different strains of virus?  Heck, may even create the next version.

I can believe that, but for Delta to be eradicated it takes a mass spread of Omicron over several months.

I look at the figures and according to them there has been no mass spreading of Covid throughout the country - so Delta being replaced by Omicron is impossible - unless there's a lie being told in the numbers - and this is what it's all about - exposing the lies.

Get past your denial.  Thailand this week has set three consecutive daily records for most new daily COVID cases since the start of the pandemic, exceeding the peaks of last fall during Delta. That's reflective of mass spreading.

As for Omicron vs Delta, you can look at the testing results that have been done on recent cases -- all Omicron. The only thing that's changing is Omicron BA 2 is headed toward overtaking Omiccron BA 1.

You have no facts to support the argument you're making.

Translation of Dr. Yong's comment that accompanied his chart above:

"it is not strange that Thailand has increased the epidemic, because the virus is spreading and easily communicable."

There is mass spread its in every province of Thailand and has been for weeks. If Delta was still around deaths would be far higher.

Look at the difference between Jan 4 and now...

They're in hospital in serious condition and intubated for COVID, not for colds.

But then you don't understand the numbers, in every situation of a flu or a simple cold there are people who die because they are already at the end of their life, try to do the calculations of the proportion and you will see that the figures are in the average of a cold. .

And here, UK, is your mass spread:

I agree that there's almost certainly been mass spread and Omicron has likely overtaken Delta but it didn't do that with a paltry 20 to 25k cases per day.

Mass spread is hundreds of thousands of cases per day.

Your comment above presumes ALL or MOST of the actual cases are getting counted officially, and almost certainly for various reasons, only a small portion are actually getting tallied in the official count. Because, people who aren't sick enough to go see a doctor probably keep it to themselves.

As has been posted many times here before, Thailand has consistently been running excess mortality numbers during the COVID pandemic, meaning well above the normal background levels caused by other illnesses.

I do understand the numbers.

There are hundreds of thousands of cases per day and positivity rates are well over 50% in some provinces, infact up to 69%

And regarding the dominance of Omicron and virtual disappearance of Delta, not just in Thailand either:

"Genetic sequencing suggests that 99.1% of the world's cases involve the Omicron variant, with the BA.2 lineage now dominant in 8 additional countries, raising the total to 18."

meanwhile...

Global COVID-19 cases fall, except in Asian hot spots

"Both cases and deaths continue to rise in the WHO's Western Pacific region, however, led by surges in South Korea, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Brunei."

They should have included Thailand as well....

Summary of MoPH COVID daily reports

Seems that with an increase in confirmed numbers of 557%* with an increase in serious cases of 74%, it isn't too serious.

(*Wondering what the confirmed numbers would be, 1000%?  2000%?)

For your information, see what happens elsewhere in the world, where Omicron is hoped to extend, while the Thai government under its jurisdiction does exactly the opposite

Cases and hospitalizations in much of the world are declining right now.

However, cases and hospitalizations in Thailand and various other Asian countries are rising rapidly.

It's a tale of two different realities that require different treatment.

Also, some of the other countries that are easing COVID restrictions also have markedly higher vaccination rates than Thailand, where about 30% of the population still isn't (two dose) fully vaccinated, and some 70% haven't received the third dose booster recommended against Omicron.

I believe various of the Nordic countries have much higher vaccination rates than Thailand, especially for the elderly/vulnerable segments of their population.
