I guess if there is money to be made during this crisis Thailand will find d a way to funnel supplies and exports to Russia while avoiding the subject. That's not being neutral now is it....try again.

" Prachuap Khiri Khan was home to the Royal Thai Air Force's Fifth Wing, under the command of Wing Commander Mom Luang Prawat Chumsai. The Japanese 2nd Infantry Battalion of the 143rd Infantry Regiment under Major Kisoyoshi Utsunomiya landed at 03:00 from one troopship, and occupied the town after having crushed police resistance there. Further landings took place near the airfield to the south. The Japanese laid siege to the airfield, but the Thai airmen along with Prachuap Khirikhan Provincial Police managed to hold out until noon on the next day, when they too received the ceasefire order. The Japanese lost 115 dead according to Japanese estimates,[24] and 217 dead and 300+ wounded according to Thai estimates. The Thais lost 37 dead and 27 wounded.[30] Ummm, they rolled over instead of continuing to fight like the Ukraine is doing...try again. 2

Leonard Desharnais
This is a sad time for all. To say I will stay neutral is stating that I am a coward and scared to speak against brutal regimes. Simple as that. It is called freedom and most have just spent 2 years being told what we can and cannot do. Now imagine running away and losing all your lifes work for a brutal dictator. We all know what Putin and XI are capable of and the more countries that stay NEUTRAL just empowers them. Both these clowns need to be taken out and put in front of the world as they are barbarians 1

Exactly. Putin has a mission and Ukraine is a lost cause. Once Russia has taken control the dust will settle and a new norm will prevail with a global division between East and West. Two of the largest BRICS countries, China and India, did not support the UN resolution. With a significant percentage of the population being of Chinese descent, fairly obvious which camp Thailand will be in.
koele2
Money trumps everything here. EVERYTHING! Because money gives you status and face, and stopping money from coming from Russia because they attacked Ukraine is pointless from some perspectives. Doing what is right even if it affects pocketbooks is a foreign concept for many people here. It’s not even a democracy here, so you shouldn’t be surprised about them staying neutral.

Popular Post Highend Expat
I suspect not many of us who have been in Asia for more than a couple years don't expect any to take a principled stance. Asian countries are notorious for disinterest until a problem is at their doorstep. Some call it selfishness. Others say they prioritise harmony. SEA is probably the weakest of the weak. They can barely bring themselves to discuss the Myanmar issues. Another reason AEC/ASEAN is toothless and will never amount to much. Thailand is among the weakest in ASEAN. The Thais have played the neutrality card to significant benefit in the past, so they have stayed on the course. I do agree with your sentiments but the pain they feel is a direct response to what Putin is doing. Now if they stated they were providing humanitarian aid things might be seen differently, but it is the Ukraine and then the People with almost 1 million who have fled the barbaric invasion who need the humanitarian assistance.......remaining neutral while supporting the regime attacking Ukraine is not the same as remaining neutral and then expecting to finance the deals through a third party tells you Thailand's take is about money and not people.
