COVID-19: Thailand reports 22,073 new coronavirus cases, 69 deaths, 24,747 recoveries

Thailand on Wednesday (March 9) reported 22,073 new COVID-19 cases, 24,747 recoveries and 69 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 

 

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 3,088,873 with 23,438 deaths.

 

The news comes as the United States’ Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has added Thailand to its highest-risk Level 4 category for travel on Monday, March 7th, along with Hong Kong and New Zealand.

The destinations were classified as “Level 4: Covid-19 Very High” risk when more than 500 cases per 100,000 people over 28 days were recorded, according to the CDC considerations.

The famous midweek bump upwards due to the lack of testing over the weekend.  I always wondered about the Thai workweek.  For those at the low end of the hierarchy including Migrants many work 6 or 7 days a week, while those in the Government get the weekends and holidays off.  I wonder why shift work is not done with this Government for important jobs like in the west where the train keeps rolling instead of stopping at a station for a long break.....

 

When you really sit back and think about this it makes sense to believe we really are at possibly 200k cases a day, and if this continues then we may never see the downside until the entire population is infected.  Just found out my neighbor in the condo is down once again with Covid, this is his third go around.....one can only wonder why and yes he is vaccinated and boostered, at least he can isolate and stay at home and pay for his own caretaker who is wearing a PPE inside and outside the condo.  Wondered what was going on this morning when he was brought home in a wheelchair.  The nurse who was helping him advised me of the situation.  He apparently spent the past 4 days in the hospital before being released for home care. Now I guess the GF and I as well as the housekeeper need to remain vigilant, luckily his penthouse is on the other side of the building.

Newly reported official COVID cases rebounded to 22,073 on Wednesday, their highest level of the past four days and an increase of more than 3,100, while new deaths remained at a yearly record high of 69 for the second day and serious hospitalizations set a new record high for the year at 1,200.

 

Wednesday's update by the Ministry of Public Health erased daily declines in official cases, unofficial ATK positive cases and the combined tally of the two that had occurred since last Friday and Saturday, though current official case levels remained well below their Feb. 26 peak for the year of 25,615.

For added context, during the peak of the Delta wave last fall, Thailand's daily COVID case count topped out at 23,418, but the numbers of serious hospital cases and intubated patients peaked above 5,600 and 1,100 respectively, and daily deaths topped 300 for a brief period.

How can they honestly expect people to believe these numbers day after day  , we all know they are well below actual new case numbers .

It wont be long before they stop reporting altogether just to try and boost tourist numbers coming into the country but only my opinion .

Number of raw deaths all causes now available for February.

The number of excess deaths for the month of February (compared to February 2021) is 3967.

 

It's 5 times higher than the official Covid deaths count (763) for February.

 

It's an increase of 2275 deaths compared to the number of excess deaths in January (1692).

A lot of food for thought with the above posted graph and the excess deaths.  Takes me back to right after the pandemic started and we were having a discussion of excess deaths and a lack of testing and finding cases back then as well.  Then all of a sudden after a few articles appeared in the national and world media the MOPH locked the data base and we could not gain access to see the excess deaths or even compare the covid stats with those of dengue, the flu, and pneumonia.....

The Department of Disease Control said the current mortality rate of the Omicron wave between January 1 and March 9 is around 0.2% and the aim is to reduce it down to 0.1% before the disease can be declared as endemic. (2/2)

First report since 5th March when there were 234 cases Strange how we do not get weekend or early week updates!

 

 

Health officials on Wednesday (Mar 9) reported 204 new COVID-19 cases in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, of which 48 cases were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 30 cases were found in Pranburi, 43 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 4 case in Kuiburi, 19 cases in Thap Sakae, 11 cases in Bang Saphan, 24 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 22 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

One new COVID-19 related death was reported in the province today.
