Hello all, how do I report a taxi driver in Bangkok? The driver charged me 155 baht from nana to huai khwang? Meanwhile, my friend only 85 baht. We both use meter to the same destination. Thanks.

All this fuss for 70 baht...absurd.

  • Both had about same traffice? It's not cheap, but could be because of a lot traffic. As you also pay per minutes not only per KM!

YOu need the number of his cab which is affixed inside the door of the passenger comparment or plate # Contact the DLT (land transport department).....but for 70 baht..if you are locally living in the area...the taxi guys will get to know who you are and there may be difficulties in the future.

Report a Bangkok Taxi to the Land Transport Department Hotline on ph # 1584. .

Exactly, double $$$

What did the taxi meter show?

Always check the meter when entering a taxi and ask to turn it on if it is not.

Consider you gave a good tip for the pleasant journey.

So if you caught a mototaxi and they charged you 50b and then charged your friend 40b, you would complain over the principal?

Its only 70 baht. How do you know if your friend maybe paid too little or they took a different route?

Ok without being pedantic (I'm assuming you eat?), if you bought 500gms of chicken and paid 50b and your friend bought the exact same cut from the exact same store for 40b, told you what he paid, you'd go back and complain "over principal"?

So his so called principle is worth only 70 bahts.

Use Grab in future - there is ‘dual accountability’....

You can also use ‘Grab Car’ (instead of Grab Tax’ or ‘Any Grab’) and avoid Taxi’s altogether if you wish.

I was taking a journey on the expressway the other day....  just flagged down a taxi, got in, got out again, no seatbelt. Flagged down another taxi, got in, got out again, no seatbelts and taxi was watching a movie on the phone balanced on his dash-board.....  next taxi was fine.

In future, i’ll just follow my own advice - its simply avoids the BS when using Grab-car but you pay a little more for it.

No.. Only an idiot puts a monetary value on principle....

The very point of principle is that its not about the money, its about the...  come-on now... you can guess it.... . ....   ‘The principle’....

Personally, I wouldn’t worry about reporting the ‘double charging’ and put it down to lesson learned.

I’d be more interested in how it happened... i.e. faster meter ? or something else...

Will travel by Grab Transport only even just move around within Sukhumvit area beside BTS/MRT.

Check the fee/charges if I willing to pay for the service.

No compare so No complaint. ????

don't bother nothing will happen, they will take your report and toss it in the trash once you leave

I'd be happy just to have meter used.

Its more likely that whatever means of submitting the report is non-functional....

There used to be an RTA App (or called something similar) where taxi’s could be reported - the issue was that it needs a photo (fair enough as a photo serves as better proof), but the real issue was that photo’s could not be uploaded - the App simply didn’t work properly.

Of course, the App was released with great aplomb and announcements of cracking down... ‘all we have to do is report the rogue taxis’.... of course, that was that, the App didn’t work, those in positions of decision making power knew that and didn’t care... why would they? they don’t take taxi’s !!!!

Then there is the ‘Land Transport hotline’ (#1584) - where you can report an indecent...  IF you are lucky for someone to actually answer you’ll have to speak Thai and deal with the fact that they aren’t trained...   Then you’ll have to send photo proof, how? you’ve phoned up a hotline !!!....

My Wife was nearly hit by a bus jumping a red light - She called the Land Transport hotline....  complained, had the time and bus #...  the person on the land transport hotline had a ‘so what’ attitude... as in... ‘so what, the bus didn’t hit you, so its ok’...  my wife responded, what if it did hit me.... the response... ‘you’d be dead and wouldn’t be able to complain’ !!....   and there exist the issue.... There simply is no ‘Give a £u<k factor’ with anyone involved....    and I mean anyone... no one at all gives even the remotes of £u<ks about these issues....  none whatsoever....

Ridiculous!

The principal was 85 baht, the interest was 70 baht.

I left my "principals" behind at Swampy about three and a half months ago ????

This happens - the too little part. For the best part of a year I got taxis from A to B, say 200+ journeys, all within a range, but at least a handful of them the price was ridiculous low as if the meter wasn't calibrated correctly - perhaps your friend got one of these poor guys

Altered meters are not unknown, and yes much more likely to be used with a foreign traveler than a Thai - but they are not common at all (I would estimate victim 5 times since meters started about 25 years ago - less than 50 baht each time and with the extremely low fares just check it off as a tip.  Much more likely difference due to traffic/route.  My normal home/hospital is under 80 baht - often 100-120 - sometimes as much as 140 baht due to traffic conditions.  As said there is a flag fall of 35 baht and then cost per distance and time of slow travel adds baht to fare.
