They should leave it up to people's common sense. Just look at Jomtien Beach, a cynic  might think that a lot of selfish people are refusing to wear masks, But in fact if you look a bit deeper then you'll see that many, if not most, older, frailer people are indeed wearing masks as they realise that they're seriously at risk from the virus. Meanwhile, younger, healthy people who would brush a dose of Omicron off like a cold mostly don't bother, unless they're with older friends or family members. I think people, Thai and foreigner, understand the risks they face by now and can be trusted to behave suitably and sensibly when they're out for a stroll.

Possibly amount farangs. Take a look at many Bangkok parks and you'll see perfectly healthy, young, fit, Thais all masked, many double masked, whilst brisk walking or jogging in the open air with plenty of social distance by virtue of not being busy, the fear is strong here and ingrained by the looks I receive not wearing a mask (in responsible settings), I can't see it changing in the next few weeks..  Btw, police and park security aren't enforcing masks currently in any of the big bkk parks

I live 150km pass Chiang Mai and I haven't found one either. What do they look like? It's great that we can take off our mask when we find a park. I'll keep looking there must be one out there somewhere.

Not sure what park you go to but i go to Lumpini, Benjakitti and next to know one is wearing a mask, young or old.

Just the opposite of what I see in those same parks. You must go at a different time then we do.

Must do, i go early around 5am, and in the week there are not that many around at that time, especially the new park.

Talking about those moving rather than sat on the grass - strolling, walking, jogging - most Thai, taking a guess at say 85%, are masked in the evening - Benjakitti. I'd say it's 50/50 with farangs. In the new instagram sponsored section I'd say its 95%+ mask compliance for Thais, possibly 90% of farangs too. Can't speak for 5am in any part

I hate these masks. I can't breath and my face gets sweaty and my glasses mist up and I can't see. They make me feel clostrophobic. Lose them now!

Everyone knows that the development of both Thailand and Thai people mentally is behind the rest if the world with at least 40-50 years.  So no surprise they talk about skipping the face masks now when it should have been done ages ago.

So, someone woke up and has been thinking: "hey. we are doing so well with omicron here, let's remove masks to try to look as idiots as the retards in the west !"....

I too really dislike wearing the masks. However, I see their value in certain situations and don’t believe the ‘lose them now’ approach is appropriate. 

 

....Not just to protect others from Covid-19, but all respiratory viruses. 

 

We ’should’ be able to live in a civilised society whereby if someone has the snivels they wear a mask to protect others... protect others from influenza viruses, rhinoviruses, adenoviruses, enteroviruses and of course coronaviruses....

I don’t think mask wearing should be enforced, but we should be promoting a civilised society....  just like not throwing litter on the floor, or spitting etc... we should be considerate of others.... 

 

IF you have a cold or flu, stay home for a couple of days.... don’t be the [deleted] who infects others....  OR, if you have to go out into public, be that person who is responsible enough to say ‘hey, OK, I have the snivels but I’m being considerate of everyone else’....

 

Society has changed, Covid-19 has forced us to socially evolve and with that we can behave responsibly....  

 

So no... don’t scrap mask wearing period, that would be wrong, but scrap the regulations and laws on mask wearing while encouraging society to continue forwards responsibly.

Its not hard to not be a total [deleted]... unless you are one of these people who believes your individual rights not to wear a mask when unwell are greater than the rights of all of those around you not to catch what you have

So let's get this right, we can assume...walking in parks not wearing masks, and removing them to eat in restaurants.... sees no chance of infection ???.

The unfortunate point is that people are selfish...   why should it be perfectly ok someone who is sick with flu to go on the BTS without a face-masks protecting others ?

 

Obviously, we can’t enforce such a law. But as a society wouldn’t it be much better if selfish individuals were in the extreme minority....  i.e. as with Japan, if someone has a cold, wear a mask in public - its not hard...

I don't know what the concern is about masks in public parks.  Lifting the requirement will have no effect on foreigners in my area.  Foreigners don't wear them outdoors if they don't want to anyway.

Pratimnak hill has a big public park, I think there's actually 2 up there and a new one opened in Jomtien.

I have been dealing with Omnicron and it’s no walk in the park. Not like any flu I’ve ever had, in fact I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, except Putin.

I was at BKK Hospital Pattaya yesterday, and Covid is far from over. All the Covid wards in all the hospitals in Pattaya are full….if you get full blown Covid you are in big trouble as they have no room for you. At the dedicated Covid building yesterday there was a steady stream of new patients arriving at the rate of four a minute…..that’s 240 an hour, and I was there three hours. Staff never stopping and all completely covered from head to toe and working continuously. If you think it’s time to dump masks you are deluded, this is far from over. Be smart and protect yourself, the other choice is not good.

Well Prayut was but then that was more of a publicity stunt now wasn't it...

Being required to mask up outdoors, in all but the most crowded environment, is simply panic mongering, science denial, and foolishness. And asking people to wear a mask at home, in their cars, on their motorbikes, or bicycles, (and other extreme nonsense like asking a married coupler to mask up during sex!) is sheer insanity, and nothing more than an attempt to keep the public whipped up into a frenzy.

 

After all, what happens when the panic stops, and Covid is gone? A nightmare for this toxic administration, as 98% of the population will be able to again express their displeasure with the dinosaurs. Let us hope indeed their days are limited. Nearly 8 years of sabotage, economic destruction, fake purification, homogenization of culture, decimation of nightlife, and tourism, has come at an extremely high price. 

 

 

 

Amazing Thailand because just a few weeks back the Health minister came out and said there is no law in Thailand that says you have to wear a mask!!
