Pedrogaz
Uh-oh, the daily leaping from hotels and condos in Pattaya seems to be starting up again. This is like the micro sleeping drivers. 1

spidermike007
The balconies here are substandard, the rails are lower than the international standards for condo towers, and the maintenance is shoddy. Far too many balcony deaths, for this to NOT BE suspicious. Where are the high quality "Scotland Yard" trained RTP, when you need them? 1

I have never heard about RTP investigating such incidence, I wonder why ????? Ultimately, because once the initial news story has been release the media is not interested in any follow up so we have no idea. This is SOP for all media services in Thailand.... there is simply no interest in followup. Look at the recent major events: Foreign Guy killed, nearly has his head hacked off in Kanchanaburi - no media follow up. Foreign Guy shoots (and kills) intruder (in Korat I think) - no media follow up. The main news outlets only seem interested in the ‘headline’... the forums only seem interested drumming up as much discussion and are quite happy to see ambiguous reporting as this leads to more pages and more clicks.... and thats the game. 6

Can you specify one example of what you're claiming, i.e. no mention of investigations into the cause of the fall? There have been many reports of deaths from falling and they are always reported as being investigated. It is not uncommon at all to read in the news (I’m not going to find sources for you) where it is reported that xx foreigner dies after falling from balcony, the police have deemed no foul play (a very fast conclusion to draw). Of course, in many cases the Police may be correct, however, the conclusion is often drawn quickly enough to raise suspicion as to whether an effective investigation was carried out to any basic standard at all, let alone to the standards we would usually expect in the west. The suspicion may be that because it was a foreigner (or a poor Thai person in many cases) that the efforts to carry out an in-depth investigation were considered not worth it by a police force we all know to be uncaring and apathetic.

We can give a poster the benefit of the doubt, understand the gist of their comments and understand their obvious meaning rather than pick up on a ’technicality’ or ‘semantics’ each and every time you want to start an argument. You want to focus on the word ‘investigation’ but even that in itself involves huge ambiguity.... When reported quote ‘investigated’ what the really mean is a policeman of varying rank passed comment as to what they think happened.... Investigations take time... however, it is often the case with these balcony falls that events and causes are often concluded at the scene and reported - this is not an ‘investigation’ even if you think so because thats what a news article writes. Do you believe that each time a foreigner or un-important Thai person falls from a balcony a full investigation is carried out to the standards which would be recognised in the UK. Or, as you suggested above - it nonsense and pure speculation that in many cases the police arrive at the easiest conclusion because it is simply the path of least resistance and easier? I mean... If you’d have to be extremely naive to believe the police do a full investigation... they just look around and draw a quick conclusion - thats not nonsense or speculation its the unfortunate reality. You don't have to read my comments never mind comment on them if your opinion is that they are "boresome"! Sometimes your comments are good, insightful and bring value to the discussion. Other times you deliberately avoid context and the obvious intended point a poster is trying to make and attack a poster and an individual facet of a post taking it out of context or debate the semantics of a word which may involve a more general meaning. In this case... when the poster [Hallib] referred to no investigation being carried out, its quite clear that he mean the police don’t investigate effectively, they just take a look and draw a conclusion. Perhaps the follow up is never reported on because it’s not considered news worthy. Or, perhaps the matter is already considered closed as soon as the police leave the scene because they’ve made their decision.
