Devastating fire at Prachinburi market - three hour blaze causes Bt100M in damage

Thai Rath reported on the devastating fire that hit the two story Prachinburi market yesterday evening.

 

Around 30 fire engines from all over the area battled the blaze from 5 pm to 8pm.

 

The sound of gas canisters could be heard popping intermittently. 

 

Provincial governor Woraphan Suwannus set up a disaster coordination center.

It is thought that 100 million baht's worth of damage was done to 30 shops at the popular old wooden market.

 

The media reported that flames spread quickly with goods evacuated from adjacent shops as fears of it spreading to other areas mounted.

 

Some 7 people who were bedridden in the shops made it out safely.

ALL markets in Thailand are fire traps, i have been to a few and its a wonder it doesn't happen more often, and as for the 100 million damage, i doubt that the ramshackle of tin and wood that are called markets in Thailand worth a fraction of that amount...
