Phuket woman to attempt to climb 6,419m Himalayan peak to raise funds for stray animals

All the raised funds will go to help street animals.

Phuket resident and Soi Dog Foundation staff member Yanisa Kingmala-Beven, will attempt to climb the 6,419-metre peak Mt. Chulu West in the Annapurna Range of the Himalayas this April, to raise money for the animal welfare non-profit.

 

Yanisa, 51, a volunteer coordinator at Soi Dog’s Phuket Sanctuary since 2018, hopes to complete the challenge with her husband, Rohun, 65, to promote awareness of the sick, abandoned, and homeless street dogs and cats of Thailand, and help raise vital funds for the charity.

The 21-day trek and challenge to climb a 6,000m Himalayan peak is significant given the extreme altitude and severe risks involved. The summit attempt involves negotiating a dangerously steep and narrow snow-covered ridge, with a drop of thousands of feet on either side.“I am very anxious about the expedition and will try to reach the top if I can”, says Yanisa.

I hope her husband is in a good shape, 65 years old for a summit of 6400 meters, it's not for everybody ...

 

agree with Tropposurfer, save human beings is more important than streets dogs ( most are ok, but some are very agressive ( I speak of dogs )

Soi Dogs DO have a neutering programme.  Even if the animal is 'owned' anyone can have their dog/cat neutered free of charge.

Could not agree more........the number of 'charitable' acts and organisations, certainly in the UK, are just one huge rip off.

 

I give money directly to street beggars......I know that is also imperfect, but more chance of the money ending up in a poor person's hands than having it go to charitable foundations 'director' and his or her family.

To raise money for her dogs, the wife took out high life insurance for her husband.

You would have to be very fit to climb over 6000m at 65. I don't think it's likely they will make it, or anywhere near really

IMHO these funds should be used for the welfare of poor Nepalese children. To hell with the pesky street dogs and cats!!
