I am walking at the beach, there is a lonely dog afar... will it bite me, or my small child? ("Yea", I use my baseball bat, "no", i do not use my baseball bat)

how to tell? What to look / watch out for?

unlikely to bite you but make sure it doesn't get behind you, sometimes they sneak up and bite. Barking usually means they aren't going to bite just trying to chase you away

So how would I then "escape" the situation, not turn back (pass) ?

(I dislike any situation where I have to smack it with my baseball bat)

As far as I've seen, no Thai dog can even be bothered to bark during daytime. At night it's a different matter. in any case, the universal trick is to just bend down and pretend to pick up a stone. All dogs understand that and it will back off.

You wouldn't need to escape it isn't going to kill you just wait for it to sod off. When they are in packs that can be a little scary.

Try to understand what's going on, sometimes they get nervous and start barking, i head that off early just by talking in a calm voice before they growl or bark

No need for a baseball bat.

Also no match for a mad fighting dog.

Heaven helps if such a mistreated beast escapes the cage.

Happened once to me walking the dogs.

Almost killed my dogs. Didn't go after me.

I broke a big bamboo stick on them to no avail.

The proud owner was a teacher :saai:

Stray/Soi dogs:

If you really scared have a thin long stick.

And never run/accelerate/try to "flee" (impossible anyway).

Just the opposite: stop and turn to them.

A bit of shouting and waiving the stick helps.

Never experienced a stray dog that would not shy away.

BTW would you tell what beach you are walking?

I'll tell our 3 dogs that. They will appreciate a good laugh.

About six years ago I was attacked by a dog in Cambodia. A really big beast - about 5 feet tall when it reared up baring its teeth.  I had to grapple with it and punch its head a few times. It ran off and fortunately I was uninjured.
