Thailand and US begin two days of strategic talks in Washington DC

Thailand and the US began a two-day strategic discussion in Washington yesterday (Monday), to strengthen further their security partnership in creating a peaceful and prosperous region.

 

The Thai delegation is led by Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Thanee Thongphakdi and Permanent Secretary for Defence Gen Warakiat Rattananont. Their US counterparts are led by Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink, and Assistant Secretary of Defence Ely Ratner.

The strategic talks, which were planned in advance, precede the scheduled special ASEAN-US summit on May 12th and 13th, which will also be held in Washington. Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will join other ASEAN leaders for the summit. He will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.

When China make the final push into the south China sea and start to look further afield don't go asking Biden to come sort out your issues, he'll tell you to tow your aircraft carrier out to sea and pretend it works.

I think Prayut may have a problem if he asks Biden/Europe to drop some sanctions so that engines can be provided to complete the build.

USA well understand Thailands stance on all things worldly, and possibly tired of their little games of portraying to be a poor neighbour but wanting to play in the big league.
