Budget 40 - 120k...... so much out there, not sure what to choose.

If you have that much money to spend, then presumably you can afford the time to go to a (high end) electronics shop and see and listen for yourself what's available.

Taking advice as to what to buy from a magazine or a forum, albeit somewhat convenient, is not always the best choice. You must examine for yourself the equipment before you buy it. There are many factors to consider, including the size of the room you will place the equipment in, the ease of use of the equipment, installation requirements (e.g. will you require new stereo cabinet), aesthetics, and most importantly how it sounds to your ear.

What you should focus on is purchasing an AVR (Audio Video Receiver). This can be a separate unit or integrated with an amp. The integrated units are more common. An AVR will allow you to easily switch the input from various sources, including a cable box, DVD player, VCR (do they still make these?), iPod, or whatever other external devices you have. The "R" in AVR is for the AM/FM radio receiver.

The last thing you need to consider is cost. The cost for high end electronic equipment is jacked up in Thailand because of the high taxes (import duties) the Thai gov't places on all products their populace is too incompetent to make themselves, and thus must import.

Anyhow, good luck with your search. I wish your OP would have stated that you were already looking and were evaluating products A, B, and C. Then it would be practical for the folks on the forum to give you good advice on the pros and cons of the products.

Btw, I used to own a Denon AVR with Paradigm speakers(cinema series, 4 satellites + 1 center), and subwoofer of which I cannot remember the manufacturer. The total cost was about US$1700... or about 60K baht. A couple of years ago I gave it away to my brother. Now I do not have anything... I have 2 1/2 year old kid and another on the way.

Well, thats why I made the post, the choices go from A,B,C....till Z. We were in Siam Paragon today, and there are alot there, but there is so much noise from misc. systems, really hard to tell one apart from the other.

There were 2 in mpre private rooms, the sherwood, and a Yamaha ( nope, not a zinger motor - cycle. The Yamahai sounded some what more solid.

I have a 61 inch Samsung projection TV, and the high end HDMI DVD player also from Samsung. Point taken over the multiple inputs into the AMP, will make sure of that. The Room is one big space, the TV place, falang kitchen, dining room and guest seating room are basically in the same open space.

I think there is another shop in Siam discovery center, might check that one out.

Main issue is there is to much choice out there

Angelic Tube Amplifiers .. a true specialty shop on Suk at the corner w/ Soi 30 .. 5 minutes past the emporium / phrom pong (sp) BTS station.

the owner is an audio enthusiast with another biz down the block. (ask to audition his personal system upstairs at his shop down the block! )

report is they cater to high end Japanese clients.

the video room has a 5.1 tube amp, Large screen DVD & comfie couch.

Cheers, will check them out. I cant say we spend alot of time at home listening to music / watching TV, so I am fighting my male instincts here to keep it simple and a reasnably light budget . Saw one for 500k Baht, dont think I will be getting that one this life, you would have to be a real conniseur ( or as my friends says " not just rich, you have to be stupid too )

Denon in my opinion are far superior to Marantz for Cinema sound, and preaty good for standard audio.

I specialise in Denon and Marant in the budget range to Lexicon, Parasound at the high end. You best bet is just to go and listen. Don't pay to much attention to magazine reviews. Having worked for Mission & Quad in the past i know what dictates a good reveiw.

The rooms at Siam Paragon are not bad - and a decent range of stuff in one place. There are other specialist places, but also look out for KEF - it's stocked or can be ordered at Paragon. They have excellent 5.1 speaker systems plus very good all-in-one home theatre systems with 'fake' surrond sound (using NXT flat panels on side of speakers to augment the main drivers). Check out KEF's website to see their latest range..... prices here are way higher (than even in the UK) unfortunately.
