Texas Democrat asks FBI to investigate police response to school massacre

A Texas Democrat has asked the FBI to launch a comprehensive investigation into the police response to Tuesday’s shooting massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

 

Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), who represents San Antonio, roughly 80 miles east of Uvalde, said the conflicting accounts from state officials, including inconsistent depictions of law enforcement actions, are adding insult to injury for the victims’ families. 

 

In a letter sent Thursday to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Castro asked the agency to clear up the discrepancies with an independent probe of its own.

State officials have already launched a formal investigation into the police response, which is being led by the Texas Rangers. The FBI is helping the Rangers analyze surveillance footage surrounding the shooting, The New York Times reported.

The police are trained in what is called Rapid Deployment and try to engage the shooter as soon as possible.   They are also trained to do that from the very beginning and to NOT wait for reinforcements.  I think standing around waiting for someone to bring a key to the room doesn't quite fit standard procedure and protocol.   

 

It must be true terror to watch the police doing nothing while hearing gunfire that is killing children.

They were too busy arresting and tasering parents.  Apparently ulvade haw a 9 man SWAT Team,where were they?  Watching the police press conferences was was a joke. Squirming and lying

Yes in these types of situations the police are supposed to use rapid deployment.  I believe the rule of thumb is even if only one officer initially is present.  That officer is supposed to attempt to engage the situation and end it. 

The response to the situation has too many holes in it so far.

Then the police should now remove the word "protect" from their mottos and signage.

Yet again an unspeakable tragedy. Not sure what I can post here about the causes of yet another inhumane killing spree in that nation without being censored.

I've heard n read from others far more learned than moi how one of the major political parties there is called "a ghoulish death-cult" by some, the other party in government I've read and heard being called naive, weak, feckless, and cowardly.

One thing is patently clear (and can be seen so clearly by comparing all the other nations in the world with US gun deaths, even more glaring when examining stat's in mass shootings), that the entire US system and national attitudes around guns is the antithesis, by any sane humane measure of a civilised society.

A specialist ICE border unit who are probably more highly trained unit than anything Texas Police have were there to help and were stopped by local Police from entering. They did eventually with a master  key from the school principal.

Apparently... Let me think... a city of less then 16,000 has a 9 man swat team. I wouldn't be surprised if they only have 9 people on the entire police force (not including the secretary and dispatchers). Oh, wait, include the 6 men from the sheriffs who were trying to help in the county catch some of the fentanyl smugglers.

Tell me how the corrupt FBI are going to do it better.  They're to busy chasing the school board meetings.

 

I am just sick about what happened in Uvalde. It is very, very sad, but I probably would have made the same decision to wait on the highly trained agents who came in from the surrounding area to confront the attacker*.  Maybe/maybe not... but I am not going to sit here and judge or proclaim a different action. It was heartbreaking then and is heartbreaking now. The answer is in the hearts of man (women and men, LBGT+).  We've got to realize that we're going to have to put up more money for mental institutions, but govern the institutions better.
