Wrong. A vehicle inspection is required only once it is 7 years old, which costs 200 baht. Perhaps you are thinking of a motorcycle inspection which has to be done when it is 5 years old.  So to renew  the tax on the pick-up you will need the compulsory insurance ( unless you not already got it as part of your vehicle insurance ) plus the cost of the tax which for my car last week was 645 baht. The compulsory insurance I believe is also around 700 baht  so @Nemises, better budget for 1500 baht but if the tax has already run out for a while they may well ask you to pay the back tax.

Then tell me why I had to do it on my 2012 Triton in 2017, and then just again this year in Udon.  My motorbike I had also needed to have an inspection at 5 years as well here in BKK, so maybe your right.

No idea about 2012 to 2017. Not what is in the rules.

This year again. Of course. Yearly after the 7th year.

Motorbike after 5 years yearly.

Thanks, now I am confused as to why my older Triton needed to be tested, it was cheap however.

it’s a 4 door diesel. 2.5L from memory. Car is not parked up Sanuk, being used by a friend occasionally.

->  2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022

So you now want to tax until 2023.

(five entries in the book already)

That would be about 4410 Baht (4900 minus 10%).

Exact amount will be slighty less. Exact displacement always slightly below.

E.g. 2477 ccm or so.

Are you sure whether the test place you took it to will also do your road tax & CTPL for you no matter whether they vehicle is 7 year old or not.

The only exception to that are vehicles using LPG. The LPG system does have to be checked when 5 years old and then yearly after that. It is a separate test to the general 7 year + testing requirement.

How "cheap"?

Official inspections start at 7 years for things with more than two wheels and are a flat rate.

Have you been had?

too many noughts there

Seems you don’t understand that the vehicle is a 2.4ltr Pick Up and not a smallish car as appears to be what you are familier with.

So not too many noughts.

4,808 baht full price for 4 door 2.5L diesel according to my records - that's what I paid first 4/5 years until it started reducing.

5yo car needs to checked over first? Thought it was 7 years for a car?

Thanks ???? all.

after 2015 tritons were 2.4  so using the below 300 + 1800 +2400 = 4500thb

CAR TAX Cars and 4 door pick ups + not more than 7 people,
tax is according to cylinder capacity (CC),
 with the following rates
1st 600cc, 0.50 baht per cc   601 - 1,800 cc, 1.50 baht per cc
More than 1,800 cc, 4.00 baht per cc
However, if it is a car of a juristic person that is not a hire-purchase provider
must pay twice the rate, In addition, if a car that has been registered for 5 years, will receive annual tax deductions from original price in the following years as follows.
Year 6, 10 percent
Year 7, 20 percent
Year 8, 30 percent
Year 9, 40 percent
Year 10 and next year 50%
If you have paid taxes late, you must pay 1% per month.
