When I arrived in Thailand in 2005 the Thai baht to the £ was 74 I felt like a millionaire today it’s 43 I feel like a pauper I’ve always believed that the baht is manipulated and nothing will change

  • The US dollar has been strengthening . Nothing to do with the Thai baht depreciating .

I haven't noticed much baht depreciation, the Pound, Euro and Aussie dollar are all down over the past 3 months.

Looks like usd running out of steam

And the pound down down over the last 15 years

....and the reason for a large part of that difference is down to Sterling/Dollar as I mentioned earlier

Start of 2005

$1.87

Today

$1.25

(Sterling/Dollar) x (Dollar/Baht) is the number crunch for Sterling/Baht

Movement in either pairing effects the bottom line and in the case of the first pairing further words are superfluous

Oz Rba expected to lift rates tues

25.95 target

I suspect that the USD (as defined by the DXY index) is only pausing before it continues upward.

The world is awash in USD denominated debt, and the Fed is tightening the money supply.

Until the Fed reverses course, the dollar will continue to move higher.

Especially relative to the EUR, GBP, and JPY. Relative to the THB is less clear.

That target (I assume you mean USD/THB), while possible, will not be happening anytime soon.

I believe 36 baht to the dollar will happen first.

Right. The Aussie is showing strength against the Baht, and I would expect that will continue.

Once China gets back on its feet, which may be a while yet, it should do even better.

Iron ore and nickel tipped to rise. Maybe 28 baht next 12 months

My investment sources have been forcasting usd to roll over soon, not sure about Thai baht

but long term they also forcasting usd to go up should a global recession occur.

When I first came to Thailand (early 90's) THB to USD was 25, so I'm still happy it's not that low anymore.

97/98 was the best years with a high of 52 THB to the USD, unfortunately I doubt we will ever see those rates again.

Covid crisis over. USD back to normal.

SE Asia is gonna get a boost from those rates.

Many tourists incoming if we stay on that trajectory.

I'm so pumped right now ????

Indeed. That's odd... ????

Consequence of Brexit? I dunno...

A lot of it is due to Brexit and the money markets lack of confidence in the British economy.

I saw a report on Bloomberg earlier today that said analysts believe the BOT will begin hiking rates in August this year and expect them to rise to around 2% by this time next year.

I’m lovin’ it! ????

1 euro = 37.14THB - Pretty stable since my last report.

We'll see where it goes from there.

Fingers crossed ????
