The heads of UK and US security services have made an unprecedented joint appearance to warn of the threat from China.

FBI director Christopher Wray said China was the "biggest long-term threat to our economic and national security" and had interfered in politics, including recent elections.

MI5 head Ken McCallum said his service had more than doubled its work against Chinese activity in the last three years and would be doubling it again.

from the article:

"MI5 is now running seven times as many investigations related to activities of the Chinese Communist Party compared to 2018, he added.

The FBI's Wray warned that if China was to forcibly take Taiwan it would "represent one of the most horrific business disruptions the world has ever seen".

that is more of propaganda language than balanced assessment. Smells of McCartyist's language than factual assessment.

It's not an activities of CCP, but chinese state, as much as can't be said that  MI6 is an activity of the Conservatives or CIA activity of Democrats.

Yes, taiwan gdp is 4x larger than ukraine (and similar to gdp of thailand), below 1% of the global economy. "Horrific disruption" in this context is mouthful.

Also title's "immense threat" is meant to confuse with much more colloquial "imminent threat" - rather used here on purpose

Worse than the disruption caused by governments reaction to COVID?

I think not.

Taiwan is irrelevant to most of the world.

No oil or grain loss like Russia and Ukraine.

The major issue is: are the US and UK even capable of strengthening Taiwan's defense? What sort of deterrence do they have after using up so much of their arsenal in Ukraine? You've got Putin constantly throwing a left jab in Ukraine, while Xi winds up for a right hook knockout blow.

You obviously have no idea of how things work in China.

well, same as in the UK, the USA or thailand - the deep state, old boys, etonians, army generals, plus capitalists with tens and hundreds billions of $.

All states work the same way. Copies of each other, part of the global system - competing for their slice of markets, mineral and energy resources.

As much as chinese inteligence is active in the usa and uk, the cia and mi6 is active in china.

Main reason for the brand new humengous USA consulate in chiang mai is spying on china - it's the closest diplomatic mission to china border

China, same as UK, US or Thailand. It's ridiculous. The CCP controls everything.

You don't seem to know how IC and high technology industries work and how interdependent the world has become. Destabilizing the world's IC industry would make covid's $6 trillion loss look like a picnic.

However, China has one problem. Taiwan's vast IC industry depends far more on Western high technology than on China's.   You might want to start here Reuters:special-report

... if Beijing invades, there is no guarantee it could seize the prized foundries intact. They could easily become a casualty of fighting, severing the supply of chips to China’s vast electronics industry. Even if the foundries survived a Chinese takeover, they would almost certainly be cut off from a global supply chain essential to their output.
