Having just built a new computer (I was so pleased that everything worked first time after plugging it in and turning it on !!), I installed Vista Ultimate X86 (64bit). Then I found that my Surecom ADSL modem was not compatible, i.e. there is no driver for X64 (it works fine with X86 - 32bit Vista).

Can anyone recommend an ADSL modem/router that is compatible with Vist X86 (64 bit), please? If so, where can I buy it, bearing in mind that I'm in Ubon, 700 km. from Bangkok?

if you connect the adsl modem direct from your computers lan,you dont need a driver.just setup a connection on vista.its either you configure it as static ip or a pppoe that requires a username and password.if you connect your adsl modem to a router then you have to setup the connection on the browser interface of the router.please refer to the router manual on how to set it up.goodluck!

This sounds interesting, but I'm not sure how to do it. Can anyone give me some simple, detailed instructions please?

Thanks for the replies.

If u connect your Modem via LAN, then u don't need a Driver. Configuration with IN-Browser.

For a new WL-Router I recommend D-Link, DSL-2640T. You can Order online from:

Just tried searching for this modem on the D-Link website and it seems there is no such beast!! Anyone know any different? I was trying to check whether there are drivers available for Vista X64.

Connect it with a LAN cable only. As your router is already configured you don`t need to change there anything.

If you need to change something open your internet explorer and type http://192.168.1.1 , that should be the address of your router. The rest is self explaining.

The router address may be a little bit different you may take a look at the manual.

You need a router that connects to the LAN, not USB.

As long as your computer sees the LAN it will see the router,

no driver hassles.

Thanks to all of you. I connected the router to the LAN port on the back of my computer, turned the machine on, and everything worked perfectly. There was no setting up to do at all. Fantastic. Now to reinstall Vista Ultimate X64 again.

Thanks again to all of you for your help. I don't know where some of us would be without this web board. Answers come back so quickly.
