Thai Rath reported that the Muang Pattaya traffic police set up  roadblocks to stop a large gang of Arab and Indian motorcyclists annoying residents following complaints.

 

The gang was revving engines, sounding horns and driving in a negligent fashion.

 

Checkpoints were set up by Pol Maj Arut Saphanon in Soi VC, Soi Yen Sabai and at the second road intersection in south Pattaya. 

 

The annoyance from the foreigners was happening every day as they rode their rented motorcycles around without a care in the world, said the media. 

 

Most were Kuwaitis and Indians.

 

Ten were booked for not having licences, six for failing to wear helmets, four for not having documentation and four for not having tax.

 

Motorcycles were seized and fines issued.

I believe I read elsewhere  that only 2 motorcycles were confiscated..... which comes over as a rather minor number.

How can they confiscate rental bikes, the bikes dont belong to the offenders.

They take them off the person riding them. The owner is then required to go and claim them back... I think that qualifies as confiscated.

Don't those Arabs and Indians know that annoying people with loud noise is reserved for Thai nationals?

Will they fine the shops renting the bikes with no tax / registration?   Probably not ...

Easy pickings on those side streets, they don't wear helmets, the other day a policeman was waiting at 2nd road\tai junction at lights took 3 of their keys away

Probably not, but it would certainly be a good idea.... as per mentioned many of these riders do not have correct licences so the shops could be fined for that infraction.

I know the cops like the money maybe, but to me things like this should be automatic 10 days street cleaning - i mean really ruin their holiday - they ruined others

The thread is newsworthy only because Pattaya Plod showed signs of life after years of being diagnosed as terminally dead.

Expect a lot more of this. Indians in Thailand are the in thing. ????

I thought the locals liked it when foreigners took an interest in their culture?  I guess assimilation is not always welcome...

They have already moved into Myanmar, and are just expanding their territories, maybe they are trying to re-establish Hindostan without pulling a Putin, or Xii.

Could they? You don't need tax/registration to drive on private property. So they can rent bikes without tax/registration. It's the customers fault they took it on public road? ????

2 of them?  Really, a gang bust?  Hardly. If the BiB were serious about it they would have surrounded the area and cut off escape and nabbed the lot.  Its at night, so it interrupted their beauty sleep. 

Just boys having FUN. If they want to catch people with no license look no further than northern Thailand. Pretty hard for 7 year old's to get a license.

Detained Arab and Indian tourists, oh my ???? 
The PM and TAT will not be pleased at all by this.
Perhaps the whole thing can be made to quietly go away.

The original story shows 4 scooters in one photo.

But it was most likely 10 as they said 10 people didn't have licenses (and you can't bust a passenger for not having a license).

The ones confiscated were probably the ones without the proper tax decals (which would probably mean they also had no insurance).

And these were scooters, not big bikes. Probably like those annoying kids with bored out mufflers that go screaming down the highway all the time (usually without helmets as well).

I think in this case we can assume they are all rented bikes with factory silencers, but, if you have a pack of them scooting around with continuous open and close throttles, then you have a lot of noise.

 

These tools know what they are doing, but know the BiB rarely do anything, which is the norm anywhere in LOS...

I seem to recall a 'clampdown' on them some time back ...

Every morning I like to go for a jog up where I live on Pratumnak about 6:30 am .. 

yes they are a pain in the Ass , I wish the police could be up and around there at this time of the morning they’d have a field day , or maybe that’s the reason they aren’t .. weighing up overtime or or fines which they can’t pocket .. 

I dunno if these idiots are drunk or not , but they certainly act as though they are , 

  Tourists should be banned from renting motorcycles.

I thought Thailand was promoting "Quality Tourists?"
