Trump did nothing to stop his supporters as they attacked Congress, threatened Pence, witnesses tell Jan. 6 committee

Trump did nothing to stop his supporters as they attacked Congress, threatened Pence, witnesses tell Jan. 6 committee

The Jan. 6 select committee’s latest public hearing went inside the White House to detail then-President Donald Trump’s hours long refusal to call for an end to the Capitol riot.

The hearing marks the final scheduled presentation of the committee’s initial findings from its investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection until September.

The nine-member committee, which is comprised of seven Democrats and two Republicans, has accused Trump of being at the center of a multi-pronged conspiracy to overturn his loss to Biden in the 2020 contest.

Goes to criminal intent.  Trump didn't do anything because he wanted the mob to stop the electoral count.  AG Garland should have enough by now to indict.  Come on Merrick, get it done!

He tried to instigate a coup and illegitimately continue as president/dictator. That is the ultimate treachery for a C-in-C and it deserves the ultimate punishment.

Unless you can show specific examples of how ANYTHING from the Jan 6 committee is false, then you are displaying yourself as one of those who will  blindly follow the former president, ignoring facts

Live updates: Jan. 6 panel says Trump chose not to act during Capitol attack

A video of President Donald Trump recording a statement in the Rose Garden of the White House on Jan. 6 is played as the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol holds a hearing at the Capitol in Washington on Thursday.

The Jan. 6 committee held a prime-time hearing on Thursday — the last of its planned summertime hearings.

It focused on the more than 3 hours between when former President Donald Trump's Ellipse speech on Jan. 6 ended and when his prerecorded video asking protesters to go home posted to Twitter later that afternoon.

It's at least a case of dereliction  of duty!

Quote from Gen. Milley:

"You know, you're the Commander in Chief. You've got an assault going on on the Capitol of the United States of America and there's nothing? No call? Nothing? Zero?" he said in the clip

His action or rather inaction was indefensible. His loyalists are abandoning him. Even staunch deniers in this forum have not come out strong in his defense. When will Trump's fatigue sets in for his base who still believe in his big lie.

These hearings just confirmed what we already knew: Trump is a loser, a liar and a cheat!

Don't forget traitor. This is what he swore to do when entering office:

" I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

He betrayed that oath in the most fundamental and despicable manner.  Shame on him and those that still support him.

Oops! Sorry, I forgot traitor.

Not enough of them. He still has the majority of his cult followers. He's a traitor, but he's their traitor. Not really of course, It's always been about him and only him. So Houston we have a problem. When he's indicted he will weaponize his well armed militias to a degree that will make January 6 look like a garden party.

When we see a massive new fence spring up around the Georgia courthouse and a phalanx of troops, the indictment is about be unsealed.
The FBI might be ready this time and have a list of MAGA instigators/boneheads in its sights.

In a way, this may be a good thing.  Get his deplorables out in the open.  If they're willing to go to jail (or die trying) for their cult leader, let them.  A good purging of right wing nutters is what America needs.

Sham show trial. Stupid to believe anything from these people.

Melania said she wasn't aware of the Capitol riot and deaths until 5 days afterwards.

Was she still wearing her "I don't care" jacket?

I tend to agree. In my mind I think; To try to avoid this distinct possibility through appeasement and some mental gymnastics to justify avoidance of such open conflict with the traitorous, secessionist, fascist/racist elements within the country and thus deny execution of the Law to the letter without fear or favour would be a catastrophic decision and only serve to delay the inevitable.

This is what happens when you elect a sociopath. They have no conscience or guilt, and only care about one person….themselves.

They will lie about anything to anybody.

My brother was a sociopath, and he was recruited by MI5. Why? Because he would do anything they wanted, including killing people.

And that type of person lead the USA. We are lucky he didn’t get us into a war. Putin is another sociopath….doesn’t care about anybody, and that is why he was a perfect KGB operative. And he has got them into a war. Also why he threatens the West if they physically interfere in his war. He would have no problem going nuclear, only his military could stop him.

Boris Johnson in Britain too - even to the point of being a KGB operative.

PS what was Trump suppose to do?  Personally go there and demand that they stop.  Kind of like the Democrats did with the riots throughout the USA

No, He didn't have to go there personally. All he had to do was tell them to stop immediately instead of enjoying the spectacle on TV. And he could have ordered the National Guard to intervene.

The former president's sycophants doted on every word he spewed. All he had to do was send a tweet (he wasn't banned for life from Twitter at that time) for them to stop and they would have. You MUST know that, and trying to bring up riots is a diversion/red herring.

They got most of these witnesses from the Republican party. And a large number of them appointed by Trump.

Isn't it funny how eventually the most fervent supporters or should I say enablers of trump remember so much when out of office. Mick mulvaney.bill Barr.john Bolton. Only one I ever remember calling him a <deleted> was rex tillerson. The likes of nikki halley who never saw or heard trump lie. Is playing the long game to run for president ( I assume after she gets a new hearing aid)

And THIS was one of the major points being made - exactly why DIDN'T he do ANYTHING to stop the mob? Maybe he didn't WANT them to stop?

Run Hawley Run’: Video of Josh Hawley fleeing Jan. 6 rioters sparks memes

"

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) may have broken a Guinness World Record on Thursday — if there’s one for guest starring in the most movies and music videos in a single night.

There was “Chariots of Fire,” with Hawley running in slow motion to the film’s iconic, piano-punctuated theme song, then came the jaunty tune from “The Benny Hill Show,” followed by soundtrack entries from “Rocky,” “Titanic” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Hawley hit the music scene next, appearing in Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” Van Halen’s “Runnin’ With the Devil” and Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” the 1985 song recently resurrected and whipped to the top of the charts thanks to its prominence in the Netflix show “Stranger Things.”"????

What a sad and pathetic worm.
