Minneapolis (CNN Business)The US economy has now regained all jobs lost during the pandemic, after a blowout July jobs report that showed a gain of 528,000 jobs, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The massive monthly gain was more than double the 250,000 that economists were expecting, according to Refinitiv.
The unemployment rate ticked down to 3.5% after holding at 3.6% for the past four months. The July jobless rate matched the half-century low last seen in February 2020.

Why would you say it has the opposite effect? I think it happened despite their efforts, not because of them.

As economists have pointed out, even before this latest report, there was lots of conflicting evidence about whether or not the economy had entered a recession.

Looking a bit better now for Biden. Lots of jobs.  Legislation for climate change, cheaper drugs paid for by big business, seems set to go through.

Signs that women and men may take Roe v Wade seriously when voting such as in Kansas.

Republican silliness continues unabated. Look at CPAC in Dallas.

People seeing signs of potential justice relating to January 6.

Even defamation trials  for Alex Jones helps give people heart that common sense can prevail over some distorted right wing view of freedom of speech.

Mid terms may not be so bad.

Well, for what it's worth, fivethirtyeight.com has the Democrats retaining control in the Senate. But Republicans further ahead in taking back the House. It will be interesting to see what role abortion plays. Clearly, in Kansas, it brought out a lot of votes. 70% of newly registered voters were women.

And success in legislation should have a halo effect.

          Canada Surrenders

Retaliatory tariffs that matter are still in effect. 95%+ of goods were not subject to tariffs by either the USA or Canada. CUSMA qualifying goods never had a tariff. The tariffs suspended were applicable to non CYSMA covered goods and were harming Canadians since Canadians were paying the tariffs. Unlike the US government, the Canadians understands who pays the tariffs. Canada has not surrendered. In case you missed it, the USA's largest trading entity has not begged to enter into a trade agreement with the USA, nor prostituted itself like the UK and countries with weak economies. CUSMA is still in effect for another year, so there is no rush. Clueless once again. Canada has not been punished, On the contrary, the USA is paying the price of trying to push Canada around. The US tourism sector is in trouble. US Exports to Canada have declined. Don't believe me? Ask the Florida agriculture sector. The Canadians signed a mega mineral development deal with Greenland, the deal the USA wanted. Oil and gas exports are ramping up, with China asking to purchase more Canadian oil, the oil that keeps US midwestern refineries going. In the coming year a new energy pipeline will be announced for the EU market. It will be financed by EU sources. The US expect the pipeline to go to the USA and to be financed by US interests. The new Canadian military spending will be directed to Canadian and EU suppliers, not the USA. Billions of $$ of infrastructure purchases will be directed to non US sources.Yes, the US controlled Canadian steel industry was hurt by tariffs. Now those steel makers are being told by the government to retool to manufacture for the Canadian market. In the past T beams used in building construction came from the USA. They will soon be made in Canada. It takes time to retool and to refocus, but Canadian industry is doing that now. Are you intentionally ignorant or are you really this clueless? Carney is a anything but a leftist. Nor is Canada a leftist country. Truly a stupid comment. Why make ignorant malicious claims about the parentage of Justin Trudeau? This false claim has no merit and has proven previously, and yet stupid nasty people keep making the claim. How could Fidel be the father if Margaret Trudeau never visited Cuba or met Castro until after Justin was born?Did Fidel sent his sperm by courier? Why lie? More contraband , including unauthorized migrants enters Canada from the USA, than the other way around. Where is the fentanyl you claim is entering from Canada. A smuggling group operating from the USA was brought down in May of 2025. It took advantage of the cross border overlap of Mohawk tribal lands to smuggle guns and drugs. Aside from that large seizure, the other seizures are insignificant and incidental, and related to personal use or attempts to test border security as the amounts were measured in grams not kilograms. There is no fentanyl problem with Canada. What would you know? Have you ever been allowed into a free country like Canada or even visited the USA?
