webfact Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, right, and late statesman Prem Tinsulanonda, left By Thai Newsroom Reporters DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER WISSANU Krea-ngam said today (August 9) Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha cannot be compared with the late statesman Prem Tinsulanonda as to whether the former may ever step down after eight years in power. The deputy premier in charge of legal affairs was responding to Prayut’s critics calling for Prayut to follow in the footsteps of Prem, a former army chief who had “learned to get enough of politics” and called it quits in 1988 after he had run the country as unelected premier for eight years. Nevertheless, Wissanu insisted that Prayut not be compared with Prem during whose time, he said, the constitution did not provide a maximum of years in power for head of government unlike the current charter which provides a maximum of eight years. Popular Post Jerno Posted August 9, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 9, 2022 Yes, let's compare other so-called leaders who illegally overthru legitimate Thai governments. Do both like wine? Do both adore the Military? Are both senile? Are both too stupid to retire and enjoy their pilfered billions? Yes, yes, yes and yes. 7

zzaa09 Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 The much more reflective comparative eras might be the 1960s into the 1970s. One could even add the 1950s, if you are a hedging individual. These two aren't even close. .....and our historic memory only extends 20-25 years.

Well, absolutely. Prem was under no constitutional liability to step down after 8 years but he did. Prayut is under a constitutional liability to step down after 8 years and he won't. No comparison at all. How lucky we are to have Wissanu to give us such a clear interpretation! 3 1

Sydebolle Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Wissanu still alive, it seems. For the first time, I agree with this other pristine example of a dinosaur; Prem was a real Statesman, Anand was a real Statesman and Prayut was, is and never will be anything close to a "Statesman". Let's see, what the 24th of this month will bring - I'm getting popcorn meanwhile ????
bangon04 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Prayut's hero surely must be Ferdinand Marcos... he stretched 6 years into 20 years with a little help from the army.... (and the Reagans)
bamnutsak Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 The main issue is that there is no replacement strategy. Anutin is not reliable for the PtB/dinosaurs. Prayut wants to saunter off to the Privy Council, like Prem before him, sooner rather than later, but what's the transition plan?
