Thailand has offered temporary residency to former prime minister of Sri Lanka Gota-baya  Raja-paksa as a humanitarian gesture.

 

The former PM who still holds a diplomatic passport is due to arrive from Singapore today and will be allowed to stay for up to 90 days while he seeks a new permanent home outside of Sri Lanka. he has not applied for asylum in Thailand and agreed not to conduct political activities during his stay here.

 

The Dept of Health is to consider ending isolation in  hospitals and hotels next month in response to the improving Covid-19 situation. 

 

Most Covid patients are now able to use outpatient facilities and recover at home.

 

A village headman was shot 8 times in the middle of chanthaburi early this morning, and later died in hospital.  

 

Construction workers staying nearby said they had heard an argument in the street followed by several shots. 

 

Police arrived to find a damaged motorcycle, several bullet casings and a gun holster, the search is on for the gunman.


The death toll following the Mountain B pub fire last Friday has risen to 16, 55 people were injured, 30 remain in hospital with 16 in critical condition. 

 

Highway rescue workers who attended an accident at Sri Racha  where a car overturned apparently forgot to retrieve a body from inside the vehicle. A police officer later discovered the car was not empty, and the body of the driver was recovered some 12 hours later.

 

A change in the law on Sept. 5 will require vehicle passengers using the rear seats to wear a seatbelt or face a 2,000 baht fine if they do not belt up.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has declared victory in the battle against coronavirus and lifted restrictions imposed in May. Kim said the death rate in his country was just 74.

 

It’s believed North Korea did not have a vaccine program, but instead relied on lockdowns, and homegrown medicine treatments.
