Drug sniffing black labrador "Hidu" comes to help out Thailand's ATPD cops

Siam Rath reported on an unusual addition to the investigative team at the ATPD - Anti Trafficking in Persons Division.

 

A near two year old black labrador called Hidu.

 

ATPD chief Pol Maj-Gen Wiwat Khamchamnan thanked the Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) for supplying Hidu and the organization's tireless work with his men.

O.U.R. is a US based non-profit organization involved in the rescue of human trafficking and sex trafficking victims with a special focus on children.

 

What makes Hidu different is that the labrador is specially trained to sniff out drugs hidden by criminals in electronic devices. These are often used against children.

Hidu can sniff them out from things like phones, thumb drives and flashdrives. 

 

Chaz Balogh, an investigator with O.U.R. said that Hidu, two in October, had come to Thailand after training in Mexico and stints in SE Asia. 

 

The dog's official name is ESD K9 Hidu - with ESD standing for electronic storage device.

In a different article, I read that the dog smells the chemicals that coat things like flash drives etc. That is where the photos of the victims tend to be stored.

It is not a drug sniffing dog.

I cannot remember where I read that article now.

A few years back during the rainy season, I gave some thought to volunteer for a NGO here in Thailand; but first decided to ask Mr. Google about these organizations. Come to find out there are many which are admirable and others not so much.

 

My research shows that there have been several investigations that link this organization with corrupt foreign government officials along with a history of fabricating rescues and statistics.

 

No doubt all of the above information is false and the $44 million that O.U.R. raised in 2021 went to worthy projects.

There was a drug sniffing dog going crazy over a passengers

suitcase a few years ago, at Chiang Mai Airport , they must 

have thought they hit the jack pot , but what the suitcase

contained was Thai Sausages ......, reporters found out the

dogs were given 20 Baht a day food allowance, so the dog

must have been hungry , never mind drugs ,I want food......????
