Firemen in the Bang Chalong area of Bang Plee, Samut Prakan, made a gruesome discovery after a large Bo Tree fell down from a garden into the Bang Chalong canal.

Submerged under the water in a tangle of twigs and branches was the body of a man who had been riding a motorcycle.

Thanawat Ngamyiam, 38, a factory worker from Samut Prakan had drowned.

Bunlert, the owner of the house said that the Bo Tree had been on the banks of the klong for years and he left it there when he built a house on the land seven years ago as it provided shade and was an auspicious tree, reported Thai Rath.

Bo trees are an integral part of the Buddhist religion, notes ASEAN NOW. There is a temple adjacent to the property.

Firemen had initially arrived on the scene to survey the damage caused by the fallen tree but did not begin their clearing work because the electricity lines that had fallen were still live.

They were unaware that there was a motorcycle under the branches.

Later shoes and a helmet were found then a leg was seen under the water after a fireman inadvertently dropped a knife used for cutting in the water.

Police accepted that there was no foul play and that the man had clearly been on his way to work when the tree fell on him in the storm propelling him into the klong.

An autopsy was ordered.

Are you also unaware that reading the Op properly is usually a good idea then you wouldn't have to think that it was reported that "a knife is used to cut water"?

Come on Lou, Ryan was JOKING, you know, trying to make some people LAUGH. And you misquoted the OP and Ryan who said 'cut IN water'.

Blimey, and the Bodhi tree is supposed to be one of the most auspicious symbols of Buddhism, given that Siddarta Gautama achieved enlightenment while sitting under one 2,500-odd years ago. This poor motorcyclist must have had some seriously bad karma!

A knife to cut water, well that is different, I was unaware knifes had to be special to cut in water....

Yep. Scuba divers have quite different knives than woodsman. Fishermen too. There are lots of different  styles of knives appropriate to their  task and use.

A comma after "cutting", would have saved the ambiguity that was not intended. Editor missed that one!
